Convinced I have cancer

Last month I started getting pain in my upper right abdomen and feeling sick. My doctor suspects gallstones, but with everything going on right now, I've had no tests or scans. During this month I have spiralled, I have some days when I feel fine. Other days I can't get out of bed, my whole body aches, my arms, my shoulders, my legs, my lower back, my left hand side of my tummy. It feels like poison rushing through me. I've called my doctor at least 20 times in the past month, they tell me to take painkillers and not to worry. I've been given beta blockers for my anxiety and anti depressants.

Finally my doctor has referred me for an urgent scan and she's called me in this afternoon for a blood test. I'm convinced I have cancer somewhere, that it's already spread and I'm going to leave my 4 year old without a mum. When this first started I read about a woman the same age as me (30) who had been rushed to hospital with suspected gallstones and it turned out she had cancer which had spread to the wall of her back, liver and gallbladder. I am so so so scared. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to function. My grandfather's cancer started in his gallbladder and he sadly passed away. I can't stop crying.

  • Hi

All the waiting is hell isn't it. I'm waiting for my scan results too.

Anxiety makes it worst and all we imagine is the worst possible outcome.

Going by my past experience I think if you haven't had recent blood tests, this is pretty much routine to do a full blood count.

I'm told approx 7 to 10 days for scan results, we'll see!

You have probaby seen your gp or nurse by now, hope they answered some of your questions.

When you have lost someone close to cancer, naturally you will be more anxious.

Hope everything works out ok and you can put this behind you and start enjoying life with your 4 year old and family.

  • I have similar symptoms to you and more (I also have acid reflux and throat, nose problems) & also feel convinced there is something very amiss going on. For awhile I thought I might be having a weird version of coved -19 and now I think it must me cancer. I too ring my doctors on a weekly bases for over 10 wks until finally was called in for a blood test and I'm now to have ct scans tomorrow. Let  us know how you are getting on, hope  we are both proved wrong....
