Worried I have lymphoma

My dad died from lymphoma over 6 years ago. I'm currently waiting to see ENT as an urgent referral from my GP. Should be within two weeks from 6th May but who knows with covid. Symptoms started two months ago. Fatigue, low grade temps up to 38 and enlarged neck glands. Blood tests normal except for showing low iron. I'm on meds for that now. They ran an inflammation test. Normal. So now I'm waiting to be seen. I've not lost weight. Still have a good appetite but for two months I'm still getting low grade temps and enlarged neck glands. They don't hurt to touch but my neck can feel achey. Has anyone with lymphoma ever started out with similar symptoms?

  • Hi Jake

Sorry to hear you're so worried. So many times over the years I've had a raised gland where you describe; either on one side or both. Usually when I'm a bit run down or just really tired. Dr google is the worst for health anxiety. If I listened to google I'd have died many times over by now from previous symptoms I've had! Honestly, I suspect there's nothing to worry about. If you can gain the courage to phone your GP for a chat I'm sure they wil reassure you too. Try not to worry and phone on Monday if it's stlll there so they can put your mind at ease.

  • Hello,

thank you for taking the time to read about my post means a lot honesty I will take your advice and to not worry to much I have read that lymphomas always have other symptoms accompanied by the for example night sweats etc.

I am less worried now I don't think it helps that I keep poking it and touching it, if it was serious i would know I think anyways as you can't really see it it's only when you properly touch it that's what you can feel it.

again want to thank you for taking your time out of your day to help me :)

    thank you

  • No problem, Jake! I know what it's like to worry about something so it definitely helps to hear from others! I'm sure you will be fine and your doctor will I'm sure be understanding when you phone tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your evening!

  • Again can't thank you enough for taking your time out of your day to help me, I'm gonna do a bit of river fishing tomorrow to try and clear my head a bit I am fine now again doesn't help I keep touching it my mother thinks I'm fine and you know what the saying is "mothers know best" so I'm gonna trust her if I am still worried tho I will definitely chat with the gp I think I'm more worried about dying from cancer at a young age but looking at the statistics it's very rare especially for my age so thank you again I feel much better just talking to someone other than my parents :)

    have a good evening

  • Hi, how are u doing? I'm having these same symptoms and it has been like 7 months. I have not been tested for covid. Did they test u for covid and it came back positive? Or did they say you have had covid because you have tested positive for the antibody?

  • I wasn't given a covid test last March when I suddenly became unwell. I was given an antibody test maybe 6 or so months after, which was negative. My GP said the antibody tests are unreliable. I had many blood tests, body ct and mri scans. It's 11 months now and I get temps and fatigue every few weeks now rather than consistently, which I had for the first 6 months. I also suffer from daily headaches. The temps when they strike are generally 38 and can last for a week, to a few weeks. My GP this week had a catch up and said he now has quite a few patients just like me. Some of which did test positive for covid. He and other doctors strongly believe it's long covid. My symptoms tick the box for that so I no longer worry that it's anything else. My advice is if you're ever unsure, get fully checked out like I did so you have peace of mind.

  • Ur antibody test was negative so how do u know u got covid?

  • My GP (and some others I have spoken to over the months) say that antibody tests are quite unreliable. The internet confirms that. I had so many other tests to search for possible things but they were ok. I suddenly became ill last March with high temps, couldn't get out of bed, felt breathless at times and it just went on and on. I'd feel a bit better then relapse fast. After 6 months this has improved but now I get relapses maybe every two to three weeks instead. Therefore, hospital docs and my GP strongly believe I had covid, which is now long covid as my symptoms tick the boxes for it. Around last March, other family members I live with also became unwell but they recovered. My teenage daughter had a temp and strange taste in her mouth for several days with fatigue etc. We now know a strange taste, or no taste, can be one of the symptoms. So it's likely we all had it, but mine became long covid instead.
