Lump in my neck for 2 years!

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post, I suppose I am mainly looking for some piece of mind or some advice on what to do as I find myself in this predicament.

Approx 2 years ago I came down really unwell, fatigue, pain and incredibly sore throat. I was eventually told I had bacterial tonsillitis and was treated with antibiotics however after treatment symptoms persisted and after many drs visits and a blood test I was told I had the EBV virus (glandular fever) one symptom I really noticed was a swelling on the right side of my neck.

Fast forward 2 years and I feel fully recovered only I can still feel a small pea sized lump in my neck. It's easily movable and soft. I've bought this to my drs attention multiple times as I can be a worrier however they've constantly told me not to worry and sometimes that they can't even feel anything. I started to doubt over the last 2 years how I was feeling and brushed it off as nothing however now I also experience regular tightness in my neck and an achy pain.

I'm terrified this is something more serious, my Nan is a current sufferer of AML and I get worried sick this lump is a sign of cancer. My drs just tell me it's nothing though, and I don't know what to do.

Goggle is my enemy right now as of course all signs point to cancer and it's just aiding my worries.

Has anyone had anything similar? Or does anyone have any advice, it would be massively appreciated!

Thank you!

  • Hi,

Wanted to say hello as I’m in a similar situation! Was very poorly coming up 2 years ago now, which ended up in me having a FNA of a swollen node in my neck; biopsy came back fine, and my symptoms were attributed to an infection we believe I got through some dental work.

During this time I had swollen nodes across the left sidebar of my neck, and while the rest have returned to normal, I still have one that is approx 2cm on my left, and a tiny pea sized one on my right. I had the tiny one scanned in Dec 2018 and the doctor wasn’t concerned, and she didn’t seem concerned about my larger one either.

Fast forward to now the lump is still there, doesn’t change and doesn’t particularly bother me; but it would be good to hear how you get on, and if anybody else has had anything similar!

  • Hi Jess,

thank you for your response. It's good you were given a biopsy, I'm in a battle with my GP at the moment just to get them to give me the time of day, they just keep telling me I'm fine after having a little poke around my neck.

I am planning to go back to my GP again and requesting further tests as it's causing me so much anxiety and worry.

hopefully I will have a better response next time!
