Awaiting Results

This is on behalf of my husband. His GP referred him to the hospital for bowel issues, early February, he went in and consequently had polyps removed on 19th February and a larger one on 10th March, these were sent for testing, he was told he would be called back in to the consultant in 2 weeks to discuss results. 4 weeks passed and not heard anything so left messages with consultants secretary but no response, we eventually contacted PALS and then the secretary rang Monday and said she is posting a letter that day and read it to my husband, from what he understood from the medical terms used, most were ok but was a slight concern and the consultant wanted to discuss with his colleagues, there was not date as to when they would happen. No letter arrived as yet and no further appointments. I see it says on NHS England, from referral to diagnosis of whether have cancer or not is 28 days, it's been well over 2 months and the worry for my husband and our family is awful. I know Covid-19 is of course taking priority but is this normal. My concern is longer it's left if cancer surely worse it can get. With NHS struggling though in the South West our actual hospital as minimal cases of covid-19, do we need to go private, would this help? My husband himself was not very good and had bleeding for 3 months before telling me and I made appointment, so potentially been 5 months of symptoms.
