Vulva biopsy results

Hi, would like to know other people's experiences.

I tested HPV+ and have had borderline cell changes as far back as Dec 2017 and even before then was getting skin changes on my vulva. Changes continued to occur very slowly but never caused much issue other than being a bit self conscious of it aesthetically. However from September gone I've had horrendous itching and lesion like sores popping up in several areas. My GP examined the vulva whilst she did my last smear in Dec and she sent me urgently to gynaecology who then sent me to vulvoscopy who then took 6 biopsies 4 weeks ago under general. Was told I would receive the results via post but instead I received an appointment letter to see gynae-vulvoscopy next Wednesday and just yesterday they rang to say they want to do a colposcopy too despite having one done 6 weeks ago that was fine.

All I can think of is that its clearly VIN and I'm so anxious that theyll suggest surgery as my only option. Know this needs sorting but kinda feel like I wish I hadnt had my smear in Dec where the GP saw my vulva and started this whole process off so I could have continued to be blissfully unaware :(

  • Hello RedLingua

I'm sorry to read about the situation that you find yourself in. It's understandable that you're feeling worried about things and I think lots of our members here will be able to empathise with the feeling of wishing you could turn back time and be blissfully unaware.

At the moment there are lots of unknowns and this naturally can lead to your mind trying to give you answers for all eventual outcomes which in turn makes you more anxious. I'm sure that on Wednesday the Consultant will be able to give you more information about what is going on and what your possible options are.
If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses at any point then please do give them a call. They'll be able to help with information and support.

Let us know how you get on at your appointment this week.
    Best wishes,
