Ultrasound scan today - waiting on results

Hi, I am new to this site but came on looking for some reassurance really.

I went to the docs recently with the following symptoms:
Lower tummy pain/cramps
Bloating
Lower back pain
Feeling full and not really getting hungry
Tiredness

I am 42 years old and I had a hysterectomy around 10 years ago due to issues with Endometreosis.  My ovaries remain.

I was sent to have an ultrasound today on my pelvis and renal area, I wasn't really too concerned as I thought maybe its just the endometriosis back again, which is a pain but i've been there before.  But at the scan the sonographer took a rather long time looking at my left lower pelvic area and lots of pics and typing, she did look at the right but seemed more focused on the left and now I am concerned there was something showing on the scan.

I have to wait a week for results and I am already worrying, trying not to but can't seem to forget about it.

Is it normal for the sonographer to spend a longer period of time focussed on one area in particular?  Or is that usually a sign of something not quite right?

  • Hello J1970
Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some health concerns recently.

We know that waiting for tests and results can be a difficult time and it's easy to read things into how someone may have looked or behaved during an appointment.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your results and they will offer you some reassurance about what is causing these problems.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi J1970,

I do sympathise with your worries, waiting for further tests or for reslults must be some form of torture, it is impossible to get away from feeling this way. I hope you get to hear back from your GP soon and you can make some plans together as how to help you from there.

I had an ultra scan on thursday after having had blood results tests showing liver abnormality. I have also started feeling some sort of ache in my ribcage area on the left. during the ultra scan, the pressure of the probe made the pain much worse and to my surprise I felt the pain on the right too during the scan with the probe. The nurse was v professional of course but I coudn't help getting some not very good vibes from her and wondered what she must be seeing on the screen and what she must be thinking while I was in such excrutiating pain during the scan. She told me it'll take a week to write and send the report t my GP after I asked her if she could tell me anything, very tactful.

I live alone and am going through depths of despair thinking about what can be wrong, obviously the pain on both sides of my tummy aren't a good sign and am waiting to see my GP hopefully next week. I think the best thong to do while waitng is to go out and enjoy meeting friends and fanily and even on your own do things you like to get tbose dark thoughts off your mind for a bit.

I wish you all the best.

    Aniya.

  • Thanks Aniya,

I'm trying to not overthink it, i will just have to wait until the results are, try to thnk positive and keep myself busy as you said.

I hope you get your results soon too and can also stop worrying about what may be.

    Take care,
    Jen

  • Thank you!  I know the best thing to do is just try to forget about it until I actually have some results.  I apreciate your response.

    Thanks,
    Jen

  • Hello

hope you are well wondering how your results went?
I had my scan yesterday but they only did external one not internal not sure if that's normal?

    thanks

  • Hi, my results came back all clear so nothing to worry about. Thanks for asking.

Hope you get your results soon and that you try not to worry about it.  I'm not sure if just external is normal, they did both on mine but not sure why.

    Thanks
    Jen

  • Glad to hear all was good

    thanks for your reply x
