Hpv positive with borderline changes

Hi I'm 48 years old and always been for my smear test and always been normal, but this time I've been told I am hpv positive with borderline changes, I went for my colposcopy last week and the doctor said there's nothing to worry about so why would she take a biopsy, I've been really worried about this and dreading my results , do they always take a biopsy when doing a colposcopy, thanks Sharon x

  • Welcome to the forum Shaz although I'm sorry to read what's troubling you.

The information on our website does say that samples can be taken during this procedure but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses you can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this helps and that you get good results Shaz.

  • Hi Sharon,

You will be absolutely fine. Borderline changes are fine, I had a similar result in 2009 and had a biopsy that was clear. Good thing is, they check you more regularly for a few years so that's got to be good.

I had a high grade dyskaryosis result so have just had treatment today. They removed cells and have to return in six months for a smear. More than happy to be monitored more closely.

Hopefully your biopsy will be fine and you will have 6 month or yearly smears.

Good luck and try not to worry. It's hard I know.
