I started with a really bad cough 3 month ago, really hard coughing/straining myself coughing to the point I felt I had pulled a muscle. This resulted into a real sharp pain under my left rib cage when I breathed in or laughed moved etc. Especially at night. I couldnt lie on that side for a while and often woke up in real pain. I used to wake up in pain. Definitely not a broken/bruised rib. I went to the a and e who placed a stethoscope on my back and chest and said its nothing to do with my ribs unexplained. I had been coughing really bad and so had a friend (we smoke weed) They never scanned me though. Gave me anti inflammation tablets and said it should go In a few week. Fast forward a good 3 to 4 week and I'm still feeling a dull pain under my left side rib (bottom) when breathing in hard or laughing etc. Although not as bad as a initially. I have a history of drug abuse, cocaine, weed, cigarettes etc. I'm 26 and really scared something serious is developing slowly. my 33 year old brother died 6 month ago due to throat cancer. I'm so scared. I feel like it should be gone now. The A and E guy literally only spent 5 mins with a stethascope on my chest ribs and back and said it definitely wasnt a broken rib and likely was an inflammatory virus or pulled muscle. The pain is not as bad but always there I smoke and drink a lot. I thought it would be gone now. Any help??
