Possible lung cancer

Hello,

im looking for some kind of advice and maybe just someone to speak to in the same situation as I’m terrified.

last Friday my dad went for his X-ray as he hasn’t been well for a while doctor thought would be a good idea for a X-ray. Within 50 minutes of the appointment he received a phone call from his doctor surgery and was advised, we have found a mass on your lung and we are suspecting cancer but we need to get you back in for further tests. So as you can imagine we have all been worried sick as we were left under the impression he would be phoned Monday. Absolutely no contact from anyone until we received a letter through the door Wednesday morning with a date for an appointment for the following Wednesday for a CT scan.

my question is. How long after you had the CT scan did the give you results/diagnose cancer? I am worried sick to my stomach and we have no idea any kind of time like. The waiting is absolutely killing us.

please if anyone has any experience let me know?

thank you so much

  • Hi I'm sorry to hear your dad has been poorly and fully understand what a worrying time this can be. In answer to your question about time line - this is our journey so far.My husband went to his GP on 13th November as he had been ill the previous week while on holiday. His GP sent him for an xray that day. The next day the GP phoned to say he had concerns about the results of the  xray and wanted him to have a CT scan. The appointment for the CT scan came through the following Tuesday 19th November for the next day the 20th. On 21st the GP phoned to say a mass had been found on his lung so he was referring him to a chest specialist. On Tuesday 26th he got an appointment for 2nd December. THat day the consultant said he thought it was a tumour but to be sure he wanted a Biopsy and PET scan ( to check it it had spread and try to identify what the tumour was - to identify what 'stage it was at'. My husband had his Biopsy on Monday 9th and his PET scan on 11th December. We had to wait 2 weeks for the results - it was a very worrying 2 weeks. At the meeting with the consultant on 23rd December we got the results and an appointment to see the oncologist on 3rd January. The speed at which everything moved was we feel very fast apart from the 2 weeks waiting for Biopsy  and PET scan results. Those 2 weeks were unavoidable as it takes as long as it takes. My husband starts this treatment on 27th January. We are trying to stay positive but I won't lie, it has been an  awful few weeks. We hope for the best and wish you the same.

    Stay strong,

    Kaz xx
