Testicular cancer

I am being referred to the ultrasonography department. My question is if I would be told what I have on the day of the appointment

  • Hi mcjz. Welcome to the forum.

A couple of years ago, after repeated epididymitis infections, my GP referred me for a testicular ultrasound.

The male sonographer scanned my naughty bits and said he could find nothing wrong, but with my permission, he'd scan higher than he usually would to see if he could find anything.  I gave my permission and he still could find nothing wrong.

So, I knew on the day that there was nothing found.  I can't guarantee this will happen to you, because it may depend on the local health trust policies, and the qualifications of the person doing the scan.

  • Hi telemando, that makes sense. When my mum went for a US scan, they told her straight away that the structure of the growth is cystic in nature, and has a benign structure. It's just that cancer diagnosis is a really big thing to drop on someone when you aren't able to discuss treatment options and next steps.

My lump is really odd as I wouldn't consider it soft and squishy, or hard. Hoping that it's nothing "bad". I know that if there is good news, they'd tell you. Just wondering what happens if that is not the case, and what other people's experiences have been.

  • Fingers crossed that it's a cyst and quite harmless.

Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes.
