Biopsy on Breast Lump Today

Hi, I found a hard lump underneath my right breast over Christmas. I had my appointment at the breast clinic today. Ultrasound, mammogram then another mammogram from a different angle, then a biopsy. To be honest I wasn't expecting it to end in a biopsy. I thought they'd say it was a cyst. It's a solid lump and they took about five samples from it! The lymph nodes in my armpit look abnormal too! The consultant was very honest and said he didn't know what it was. I go back on the 16/01/20 for the results. I thought I was being brave today and went on my own. But nearly lost it when they asked if I came with anyone. I work at the hospital so one of my colleagues popped in. I just burst into tears when I saw her but I don't knowwhy, it could be nothing.  I've also been having horrendous night sweats!! Am I being over dramatic?

  • Of course you're not being overly dramatic....this is a big deal....your in limbo and it's natural to be all over the place....

good luck on the 16th and pop back to let us know how you got on? X

  • Thank you very much and I will pop back next week x

  • Hi I also had my core needle biopsy done today. I can totally understand how you feel. I was at the breast clinic on 26th of November. Had mammogram and then ultrasound and then Fine needle aspiration. They found a solid lump they believe that it is a benign fibroadenoma. Because of my age 47 to double check what it is they booked me in for a routine core needle biopsy today they took 5 samples. I will get the results within 5 to 10 working days. Will be glad when the results are in. Biopsy went well wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be the nurses were fantastic putting  me at ease and the doctor was great as well. So thankfull for the NHS.

  • Hi I'm 46. I asked if it was a Fibroadenoma but the consultant said he didn't know what it was. Biopsy is to rule out anything nasty and to see what it is exactly. The lump is under my breast almost attached to the chest not deep tissue! ‍♀️ good luck with your results x let us know how you get on xx

  • I hope your results come back okay. Will keep you updated when I get the results back. Going to try and keep busy and try not to get too anxious. Thinking about you.

  • Definitely not being dramatic. I too found my lump over Christmas and had my biopsy today. I'm 30 so I really didn't expect it to be more than a cyst so I didn't ask my husband along as I didn't want to 'make a big deal'. I soon regretted that once they confirmed it was a solid mass and needs a biopsy!

My lump is underneath my left breat. Fingers crossed for you. I get my results the 16th too - the wait and not knowing is really scary, especially as my mind has the tendency to run wild.

I think a combination of relaxation techniques & I have been telling myself everything will be okay, either way. (Not sure how much I believe that myself though.)

Will be thinking of everyone in Limbo Land x best wishes x

  • Hi Olimiss

Thanks for sharing x Sounds very similar to mine. The waiting is gonna be agony! I hardly slept last night things going round in my head plus slightly uncomfortable. Good luck for next week hun. My appointment is at 3.40. I work at the hospital so it's going to be a lonnnnng week. Please let me know how you get on and fingers crossed xx

  • Hi I think relaxation techniques will be a great help. I will be doing a lot of art the next couple of weeks when not at work it's a great distraction. Also the house needs a good spring clean as well. Will be glad when the results are back. The Doctor said it won't be next week but the week after for the results so I have a bit longer to wait. My lump is on the top outer part of my right breast. I am trying to loose weight but do eat a lot of junk food especially chocolate when stressed so I am going to try and be good. All the best for next week.

  • [@Olimiss]‍ Good luck for tomorrow xx

  • Hi

I had my Biopsy result today. I have papillary breast cancer! I’m ok. It’s a non invasive form, usually, however pathology couldn’t rule out from my biopsy if it is contained in the papilloma or if it is invasive purely because I have swollen lymph nodes. So they have taken a biopsy from them today to make sure it hasn’t spread. I get the results next Thursday.

I have my surgery next Friday to remove the lump and surrounding tissue. Depending on my results from biopsy and the lump they remove, will determine if I need radiotherapy or not. Consultant asked if I had any questions? Yes! Can I still run London Marathon this year?

I don't actually feel anything, I'm just thinking it could have been a lot worse. I guess it will probably hit me at some point in the next week or so. The prognosis is apparently good so my thoughts are with those who have/will receive worse news than this! xxx
