Urgent referral

Hiya, this is all new to me and don’t know much about this.

ive had a lump for around 3-4 months, it’s felt a tad sensitive but I left it as didn’t think it would be anything serious until I have had more symptoms and found the lump had got 3 times bigger. I’ve been to the doctors this morning and my doctor found the lump straight away and straight away referred me and gave me an urgent referral cancer leaflet and said I’ll have an appointment within 2 weeks at the hospital.

im worried and nervous but am I over reacting. This all could be nothing but because of my symptoms I’m finding it hard not to worry.

Anyone had the same? I don’t know who to talk to

  • Hello, where's the lump? When I found mine in my breast I was stupidly worried when the gp referred me! I thought he was just going to cop a feel and say...oh that's nothing to worry about!

If it's the breast clinic your going to they will be very thorough.....

pop back if you need to chat x

  • On my right boob at the top, he told me it’s pretty big. I was very positive when I went thinking I’d be sent away with swollen milk duct or something and was shocked to have an emergency referral.

Im waiting on a phone call or letter to be seen within a week or 2 and will know from then.

did you have any symptoms? X

  • Hello! Welcome to the the forum! (I’m new too!)

my story is pretty much the same as yours! Apart from the doctors said it’s pretty likely that my lumps are malignant

i have just been seen by a specialist on the 2 week urgent referal thing. And I’ve had an urgent biopsy ordered.

In in terms of reassurance, statistics show that 90% of people sent down the urgent referral route DONT have cancer. Even if you are in that 10% minority, what will worrying do? It won’t shrink the tumours!

Much easier said than done, but try to distract yourself. You really won’t gain anything from worrying, so enjoy these 2 weEks and after you’re consultation with the specialist, you can take things from there!

  • My appointment came in the post. Firstly you'll have a chat to the consultant, they will most probably mark where the lump is, then it's mammogram, ultrasound and very possibly biopsy, this is called a triple assessment. The clinic can be very boring with lots of waiting so if you can take someone with along it will help pass the time...

I found my own lump quite by accident! But had no other symptoms whatsoever...

    xx

  • Hi

A few years ago i had a lump and was referred urgently. ALL breast clinic referrals are marked urgent so dont panic just yet. i was seen eary due to a cancellation. i had a mamogramme, ultrasound and it was simply a cyst which i had drained there an then. job done. its hard not to worry but honestly, dont panic just yet!

most lumps are harmless. and if not, you'll have plenty of very experienced nurses to look after you. Good luck and fingers crossed for a positive outcome :-)

  • Good evening Paige,

I am waiting for my triple assessment. Very worried as I have a lump on the left breast with swollen lymph nodes on the breast and under the left armpit, which is making my armpit sensitive and swollen.

Hopefeully having pain means that it's not a serious problem?

    Good luck x
