Bloody discharge between periods

Hi everyone.

I am absolutly sick with worry and have really bad health anxiety.

Last month I had a normal period that lasted 8 days, four days later I started to get some bloody/pink discharge and this went on for about 5 days. Then for 2 weeks everything was normal and I had my next period. Then again four days later the smae thing happened however this epidose of bloody/pink discharge has gone on for longer with it being day 9 currently.

I went to my doctor as I was so scared about it and she asked me some questions and said nothing I said sounded worrying. She done an examination of my cervix using a speculum same as a smear and said my cervix looked healthy apart from a bit of cervical ectropian. I know what this is and wasnt bothered with hearing I have it however she is also sending me for an ultrasound which has caused me to feel sick to my stomach with fear. She said she doesn't expect anything to come back from the ultrasound and that the next step would be to put me on some pills to reregulate my periods.

I am so worried that I might have cervical cancer or uterine cancer. I just want to cry all day long but I have 3 children so I can't i have to keep it all in. I did have a smear test in Aug 2018 which was clear but I don't know if this matters. Im just very scared atm.

  • Hi,

Can I please ask if you have found a reason for your spotting? I had a single streak of blood in my discharge once this month and last month, both around ovulation but have never had ovulation bleeding before. Had a smear last week (only been 18 months since my last smear but I paid for one privately, also had internal scan 6 months ago due to a sharp pain on my right hand side that was also clear) and the GP said she could see "something" that could be erosion or a cyst, I freaked out as I have health anxiety so just completely panic at things like that. I have an appointment tomorrow with gyno but I'm struggling to cope worrying. I just don't understand how she couldn't tell what she saw

Thanks and I hope you're ok! Xx

  • hi,

i’m In a similar situation, went to my gp for spotting between periods, she was concerned about lump on cervix so referred me to gyn who confirmed it as a nabothian cyst, just waiting on a scan to investigate the spotting.

My spotting is once a month around ovulation and is very slight, it’s then followed by brown discharge. just wondering how you got on?

  • Hi [@AnxietyGirl]‍

i just come across your posts as I was Googling the lump in my neck that im a little worried about and saw how much your HA is impacting your life. I just wanted to check in with you and make sure you're okay?? It's never nice to feel like that. I know how tough HA can be. Everyday is a battle. Sending love x

  • Hi

    [@worryingwoman115]‍

Did you get any answers for the problems you're having? Im terrified since last year I started having spotting after  intercourse, had swabs an bloods an came back normal.

But the last few months around 3 days after every period ill start bleeding again but very light n mucusy, this month my period seemed more watery too an this month an last month after my period i feel quite sore down there for a day or so. I've also noticed my hair is thinning at the front alot. Im so scared I have agoraphobia, health anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder an because of covid i can't go to the doc's as im too scared

  • I'm really sorry to hear you are suffering like this. Health anxiety is really debilitating isn't it. I can totally relate to that. I received a phone call today from hospital to offer me an urgent appointment on Monday and I instantly started shaking with fear. I always fear they will find something sinister or suspect something sinister. My medical notes say "suspected Cancer" which totally freaked me out!
I finally stopped bleeding and didn't bleed again until my period which was all out of sync due to the abnormal bleed in between.

I have had intercourse and no more bleeding afterwards which is so strange. I would love to know what caused that previous bleed.

Could you maybe have an online telephone consultation with a specialist at first if you are suffering with agoraphobia hun? You must be so terrified. My heart goes out to you and I hope you get sorted soon x

  • This happened to me when I had ovarian cysts. They was saying the cysts looked suspicious and couldn't rule out cancer. I totally freaked out, had a horrendous panic attack that made my body go into shock and hyperventilate. I eventually had keyhole surgery and it turned out the cysts were functional and non cancerous. All that worry they put me through and it all turned out fine. I know it's hard not to worry hun but rest assured that the majority of cases are not anything sinister. This is what the nurse told me. Hope you got on ok at you're appointment x

  • Hiya,

I’m currently having the same thing happen to me! I had the contraceptive injection at the beginning of the year because I was having heavy periods , I didn’t book for the next one in June because of lockdown and I came on in August all has been as normal untill this month I had my normal period two weeks ago and ended on the Friday , on the Sunday I had light pink bleeding and got heavier and continued for a week , it stoped and today I’m having the same really light pink bleeding again! I had my smear booked for the Saturday the week after my period but cancelled because I started bleeding again .. I’m going to rebook on Monday but should I consult my dr to?

I’m so worried and I’m having really bad anxiety about it. I’m having period pains I don’t usly have and lower back pain (I don’t know if I’m over thinking) I’m only 27 and have a 7 year old son - I’m thinking the worst and that this might be my last Xmas ect, nothing like this has happened before!

Please let me know how you all get on, and hope I haven’t made you all more anxious with my anxiety.

    xx

  • Hi lovely,

I've been experiencing the same sort of thing. I'm usually quite regular but my last two periods have been different and I have been spotting in between, but more like a brown discharge. I've also had lower back pain and am convinced I have cancer or something that will prevent me from having children. I'm only 29 and my health anxiety is through the roof. Mt partner is being as supportive as he can he but he doesn't understand how it feels and I think he thinks I'm obsessing (which i am!). I have been told by the sexual health nurse to do an STI test first because the doctors will want to do that first anyways, then if that comes back clear (which I'm 99.9% sure it will) they will want to do an ultrasound.

You're not alone and you can chat to me whenever you want to xxx

  • Hiya lovely!

It's so stressful the worry isn't it! Try not to panick to much it's good they will refer you for a scan! - I had my scan last week and they found a cyst on my ovary and suggested endometriosis, I am going back for another scan in 6 weeks and also have been referred to a gyno. It's put my mind at ease knowing nothing synister was spotted but I still am anxious this little cyst is causing all this pain and worry! But I think it is! So try not to stress to much .. anxiety gets the better of me but the late sleepless nights did me no help if I'm honest , so try slee easy and hopfully the ball gets rolling for your scan and I will be somthing manageable.
Thank you lovely! I'm always a message away aswell!

    xx

  • P.s my smear was also clear and blood tests .. ask your dr for bloods to be done and do get your smear if it's coming up that will help ease your worries xx
