Bloody discharge between periods

Hi everyone.

I am absolutly sick with worry and have really bad health anxiety.

Last month I had a normal period that lasted 8 days, four days later I started to get some bloody/pink discharge and this went on for about 5 days. Then for 2 weeks everything was normal and I had my next period. Then again four days later the smae thing happened however this epidose of bloody/pink discharge has gone on for longer with it being day 9 currently.

I went to my doctor as I was so scared about it and she asked me some questions and said nothing I said sounded worrying. She done an examination of my cervix using a speculum same as a smear and said my cervix looked healthy apart from a bit of cervical ectropian. I know what this is and wasnt bothered with hearing I have it however she is also sending me for an ultrasound which has caused me to feel sick to my stomach with fear. She said she doesn't expect anything to come back from the ultrasound and that the next step would be to put me on some pills to reregulate my periods.

I am so worried that I might have cervical cancer or uterine cancer. I just want to cry all day long but I have 3 children so I can't i have to keep it all in. I did have a smear test in Aug 2018 which was clear but I don't know if this matters. Im just very scared atm.

  • Hi AnxietyGirl,

We're your symptoms of spotting mixed in with ewcm? Did you have any cramping etc?

the latest two months I've had my period then about 10 days later had ovulation, sometimes clear, sometimes, pink/red/brown.

stressed out my head! I have health anxiety which is currently sky rocketing.

  • Hey,

im having similar symptoms. I've been tracking my ovulation as I'm currently TTCing and right before I ovulate for 2-3 days I'll have brown spotting and it's quite a lot actually! also other symptoms I've been getting is my period is usually 28 days long I could even tell you the time I would start my period but for the past 2 months my cycle has been 36/35 days and my periods have been extremely heavy and cramps.
I told my doctor and I'm booked in for a pelvic scan, I'm fearing the absolute worst! When I google I go straight to the more sinister diagnosis and I sit there worrying! I've had to take antibiotics to slow down the bleeding this month for my period as it was affecting my daily routine. All I wanted to do was sleep as I already suffer with anemia. Anyone going through or gone through this?

  • Have you had longer cycles and heavier periods than normal as well? X

  • Hi,

I had ovulation spotting/bleeding which was after a couple of days of the stretchy ewcm. The spotting was brown, also red and pink too. It wasn't there every wipe but it lasted anywhere between 3 / 4 days.

One Dr, told me it was stress. The GP nurse told me ovulation can be all of those colours and was fairly common. Then my own GP told me ovulation spotting happens but she knows I have bad anxiety so she gave me an appointment and done a pelvic exam. I have a bit of erosion which she's seen before at my smears. There's a possibility it could be a polyp.

the spotting happened Feb, March, April - VERY stressful time.

let me know how you get on at your pelvic exam. Xx

  • Thank you for replying! Will do x

  • I actually re-read your post wondering if I had written it because it's almost identical! I had an ultrasound in Nov for a suspected cyst which was the case and everything else normal. Health anxiety kicked in about cancer so I had bloods (CA125) and a smear. Both normal. In feb I had an MRI for my lower back and they remarked on thickening of endometrial stripe (I was actually ovulating too). Again total melt down. I'm 37 and never had gyne issues accept for thrush and in May I got spotting mid cycle - like right on my fertile day. I was in a mess. GP checked me and said cervix was fine except for erosion (like you). Now it's just after happening again (only very slight) and I'm starting to worry. Every ache, pain, twinge I get in that area I'm so scared. I've OCD as well so it's a constant loop in my head. I've had a clear MRI and nothing other than the thickening showed on the MRI but I still cannot shake the fear.

  • Hi [@AnxietyGirl]‍

been reading you're posts as I'm currently having the same symptoms as you did. I am 41 and have always been as regular as clockwork but just recently I had my normal period and 3days later started bleeding again, this lasted a few days then stopped for a few and has started again but just a brownish pink discharge. I am so terrified because when I was examined the doc said my cervix was low. They have rushed me through on the 2 week wait system as they said these symptoms could indicate Something more sinister. The specialist has requested CA125 blood test which I've had and currently waiting for the results to come back. I feel convinced it's something bad and my anxiety is through the roof! I have had to start some tablets to calm me down because my heart was racing every time I thought about it and was shaking so much.

I'm so pleased everything was good for you lovely xx

  • Worrying woman,

I am also on the 2week referral for gyne atm, appointment for November 2nd,

I had hpv virus come up on my recent smear, but not abnormal cells, my ovary tumour marker blood test was fine, but intercourse causes bleeding and pain, and im always getting period pains, even outside of my cycle, even just needing a wee gives me period pains.

Also having to go to gastro clinic for that side of things too, such a stressful time atm, topped off by a arsey teenage son who is grumpy, and intolerant to everyone, and expects the earth,

Feel like curling up in a dark room and just crying for a few days, and not speaking to anyone, sadly, being the mum you jist can't do that and I have 3 other children and a husband to look after ‍♀️

  • Sounds like a mirror image of my life too hun. I also have a 15yr old son who is causing me horrendous grief and I cry most days due to his attitude. He expects the earth too I feel unappreciated and taken for granted. Being a mum is such a thankless job.

hope you get sorted soon with your pains etc.

It is such a worry. My bleeding started after intercourse too and lasted for weeks, felt like a very long period. Had a UTI which I just had antibiotics for and My CA-125 blood test came back fine and smear results were ok. I had telephone appointment with the gynaecologist and she basically said that due to my bleeding episode happening just the once they are not going to investigate further. She thinks at 41 I am too young for menopause despite me reading lots of things on the internet were women start perimenapause sometimes in their 30s  I just felt fobbed off tbh. They have not offered any scans to check for cysts despite me having two operations to remove large cysts on my ovaries over the past 10yrs and the last one had twisted my ovary which landed me in A&E

I have done a self referral to family planning clinic to see a gynaecologist there for a second opinion.

I have finally finished bleeding but still having lots of twitching in my lower stomach area.

it's just awful not knowing what is going on and trying to carry on as normal being a mum is very difficult.

please know that you are not alone hunni

  • Hi Ladies, I just wanted to say I am going through the same and you are not alone xx
