worried about ca 125 results

Heya,

I went to the doctors about a month ago because for about a year now I've had bleeding between periods and heavy clots when menustrating. The doctor suspected it could be endometriosis, I had some bloods taken and now fast forward to yesterday evening where I went to have a vaginal examination. This is when the doctor tells me my blood results have come back and my ca 125 levels are higher than normal, at 54, which could signify a tumour. She said given my other symtoms she thinks it will be endometriosis and not to worry, however, of course I am.

I have an ultrasound on Saturday, thankfully not too far away but I'm terrified I have cancer. I was wondering if any other women had higher levels of ca 125 and it turned out not to be ovarian cancer. I'm trying hard not to be consumed with worry but I can't help thinking "what if", I've heard that ca 125 levels are only really high in women with endometriosis if it's severe and if I'm being honest, if I do have endometriosis I don't experience constant pelvic pain.

Thank you,

  • Hello sophiepounce,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope your ultrasound goes well today. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what the CA125 elevated results might mean as there could be many different explanations to that as your doctor suggested. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this while you are waiting for answers is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Sophie,

i just read your post and wondered how it turned out for you? I’m searching the posts as I have found out I have raised ca125 and have been referred to consultant. It’s not massively raised (46) but I’m still incredibly anxious as  I lost my brother to cancer as well as a couple of friends.

Hope you see this and hope all turned out well for you x

  • Good Morning

I had a CA125 test around 2 weeks ago, mine also came back raised at 57.

I'm 24 so I was told not to worry too much as there are lots of different reasons why it's raised... apparently any inflammation can raise it, even a cut!

I have a cyst on my ovary, so this could be why mine was raised. However I'm still waiting to see a specialist at the hospital.

Yours isn't raised too much from what I understand. Some results can be in the 1000s!

    Hope all goes well.

    Take Care
