MRI results are in for head and neck

Hi

New to this forum, had an MRI scan last Friday and was called today and the receptionist stated that   my ent appointment was moved forward to next Friday, however didn't know I had an appointment in the first place. I asked if it was serious and she hesitated I'm convinced it's the worst. I don't know what to expect and I'm scared, like really scared. At the time my symptoms was that I found it hard to swallow and sore throat, the swallowing isn't really a issue the sore throat is there a bit, but I do have a lump on the side of neck and a blocked ear tube, stiff neck and headaches, so now I'm not sure what the results are, but for them to bring it forward that can't be good.

  • Hi Ruth39.

Appointments are moved about all the time, and moving an appointment forward doesn't have any specific significance.  Possibly someone cancelled and you got lucky.

Receptionists aren't trained to interpret test results and are unlikly to know whether or not you have anything to worry about, so you shouldn't read anything into her hesitation.

People frequently worry themselves sick over these things, but later they come back and say they got the all clear and they worried unnecessarily.

FWIW I went through a similar process a couple of years ago for a persistent sore throat. I had an endoscope up the nose, an MRI, then a "panendoscopy" under general anaesthetic.  And when it was all over, I got the all clear.  The same thing happened to a friend of mine: same tests, same result.  So good luck with your appointment.

  • Hey

Thanks for your reply back. So I went to see the ent doctors and they told me I need a biopsy, as they are not sure what they are seeing and need to make sure it's not the big C, however I still have ear problems and some breathing issues which I'm not sure if this is due to anxiety. I hope my ear problems don't get worse while I wait for surgery in January. I'm all over the place I just want to feel some kind of normality back in my life, I'm also anxious about the biopsy. I also have other stuff going on with me as well and it's becoming over whelming....not sure where to go from here. I've been referred to the iapt team, god knows when they are gonna see me or even care about what I'm going through...
