Being tested for bowel cancer Age 23

hi everyone, went to my gp yesterday and described my symptoms of mucus and blood in stools, bloating And abdominal pain. First thing she said was what is family history of bowel cancer, none of my family have had it. Currently being referred to colo rectal specialist and a colonoscopy to be booked as soon as possible. I’m so worried has anyone any advice?

  • Hi Jessica. Welcome to the forum.

    I am not a doctor.

Bowel cancer at age 23 is pretty uncommon so it's very unlikely that is the cause of your problems. Your symptoms need to be investigated, but bowel cancer would be well down the list of possible reasons. I know it's difficult, but please try not to worry.

  • Hi

Sorry you have this massive worry.

I have had bowel cancer twice, I'm in my 50's, you do have age on your side. Although it is not impossible for someone of your age to be diagnosed, it is more than likely something else.

It is good you are getting seen by the right people though.

A colonoscopy will find the cause.

Please don't google your symptoms, it will scare you to death. Leave the investigations to the experts. Good luck, let me know how you get on. xx
