Results not ready a good sign?

Hi everyone, I had my ct scan on Friday of my head/neck, I phoned the receptionists of the ent to ask if they have had anything back yet and she said no not yet, is that a good sign that it's nothing sinister and I can stop worrying if it's taking that long for them to get the report back?

  • Hi LillyRose

Five days is a bit too soon to expect the results to be ready.  In general, you can't read too much into how quickly, or slowly, results are turned around.

  • Hiya, thank you for replying, I just have been telling myself that if it was anything bad I'd have heard back by now but I don't really know how this all works and my mind is going on overdrive waiting for the results. Do you think I may hear back from them by next week?

  • It's difficult to say. Unfortunately, the NHS has a shortage of people qualified to read scans, examine biopsies, etc, so results seem to be getting more and more delayed.  Also, your results may also be reviewed by MDT (multi-disciplinary team) before you're officially told.  It's just a painful wait.

Sometimes the results are uploaded into a database that your GP can access, but I'd leave it a couple of weeks before asking.  I had a CT just after Easter, and I think it was 3-4 weeks before my GP had access to the results and printed me out a copy!

  • Yeah that's very true, it's a sad fact that the poor NHS staff are so understaffed and still taken for granted, I definitely appreciate all the hard work they do, I am just such a worrier but the lovely lady I spoke to earlier was very kind and said they will contact me as soon as they are back.

I'll try to distract myself, Halloween tomorrow will be a good distraction I hope with trick or treating with the kids, I'll just try and stop thinking about it as much. Thank you for your advice though

  • We've all been through the same thing.  I think more houses get redecorated whilst awaiting results than at any other time.

  • Hiya sorry to bother you again, I've had a phone call today saying they want to see me next week, I said I'm time restricted with Friday being the best day for me to be child free and they said it's best to go child free so I'm to go in in the morning next Friday but they won't say anything about my results to me so I'm not sure what to make of any of it. If they hadn't found anything would they just tell me over the phone or by letter?
