Awaiting results - Prostate cancer diagnosis

My brother has a raised PSA and enlarged prostate. He had his scan and biopsy a few weeks ago and the result appointment has come through for approx 8 weeks time. This seems such a long agonising wait. Is this the norm?

  • Hi private FD, high it does seem like a long wait, with my biopsy i, was told straight away by the nurse who did the biopsy but i know they were certain what it was, it should only be a few weeks, but it can depend on how busy they are, best wishes.. Billy

  • Hi PrivateFD.  Welcome to the forum.

This wait seems anything but normal.  My appointment to get the results was less than 2 weeks after the biopsy. Eight weeks seem far too long, especially if the biopsy was actually a few weeks ago, making the total wait 2-3 months.

I think I would see my GP to discuss the situation.  GPs often have early access to results via the computer.  I had a CT scan a few months ago, and my GP gave me a copy of the results before I heard from the hospital.  But further, the GP does need to know if patients are being kept on the hook for such a long time, and may be able to pull some strings to get the appointment moved forward.
