Waiting for biopsy results

Hi,

Had a uterine biopsy last week - dr is rushing result as she is clear there is a tumour and she is concerned about it. She straight up said it could be cancer and talked MRIs and surgery. I will know on Monday. Obviously I'm very stressed and preparing for the worst. And hoping for the best.

I'm 43 and single. I haven't told my family yet as there's no point worrying them. But I'm really bothered by the reaction of a few close friends I've told. I'm getting nothing. I'm pretty laid back usually and I'm sure they think I'm being hysterical (I've not even cried). I've even showed one of them the notes from the biopsy which says possible malignancy/large mass and she was like 'oh let me know of you  need anything'. Then heard nothing for days except a text about her having had a rubbish day at work and another about organising a weekend away in January. I cant quite believe it. I politely text back about hanging fire until I knew my results and shes not responded again for 2 days. We usually chat every day. What is wrong with people? I'm.not asking to be cared for but a how you doing wouldn't hurt.

I do have great friends who are dropping everything to be with me on Monday but God I could scream about the others.

I guess sorting the wheat from chaff is part of the process.

  • Hello Upthejuction,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. It won't be long now before you get your biopsy results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results. I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do over the weekend to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you. Sometimes it is easier to talk about all this to others who have been through this before and who sometimes understand better than your closest friends what you are going through at the moment. I am sure that many here will also relate to your experience with regards to friends it is common to feel let down by some friends in these circumstances. They may not know yet how to deal with this or they may be struggling to find the right words to support you, hopefully they will step forward soon but in the meantime do try and focus on the lovely friends you have who have dropped everything to be with you on Monday - that is really nice of them and I am sure you deeply value their friendship as much as they clearly love you dearly as a friend and want to be by your side.

Keeping everything crossed for you for Monday that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks Lucie. Your words were very helpful I've managed to stay reasonably calm and focused and been busy at work - I've even explained my worries to friends. I'm still not sure they get it (I think they just can't commute that this could be happening...) but have been a bit more supportive. Two of them are very much practical people, rather than emotional, so I guess they'll come into their own when (if!) there is something they can do. Anyway, results tomorrow and bestie on her way! I feel quite prepared for the worst - but not much seems the elevate the worry of waiting. Mercifully, when I changed GP recently, he ran loads of bloods and everything was clear, so even if this tumour is malignant, I'm reasonably sure it hasn't gone far. A few glasses of wine and chat with an old friend will make everything seem more manageable I'm sure.
