I accompanied my wife to a similar clinic at a hospital near where I live - we're not supposed to name hospitals or doctors in these posts.

She was initially assessed by a specialist who took a medical history, then a physical examination including ultrasound.  We then went back to waiting room and she was called in for a mammogram.  We had a bit of a lurch when she was called back for a further mammogram, but it seems the first one wasn't a good image.

There was a tense wait while the images were processed and examined, but after about 15-20 mins we were called back into the office by the consultant and she was given the all clear.  We thanked him profusely and, much relieved, retired to the nearest coffee shop for some refreshment. 

If there had been a problem then I think the next step would be to take a "fine needle aspiration" biopsy of any suspicious areas. 

Hi  I had an ultrasound first.as lump was hard, I had core biospy. If you are over 40 they will do mammogram first.ultrasound is for women under 40.hope this information helps.

There is nothing to worry about for your appointment tomorrow. you will find that your care team are all very pleasant and try their best to put you at your ease.Telemando's description is pretty accurate except not everyone will get told the results of mammogram or ultrasound immediately.

The consultant often waits until the results of any biopsy have come back and he has discussed the findings with his multidisciplinary team (MDT). These meetings are usually held once a week. Tests can take 1-2 weeks to come back. I sincerely hope that you are as fortunate as Telemando's wife.
