Terrified! Lump in breast & small one in armpit

Hi everyone,

My first post after reading so many helpful ones on here. I'm 34 years old. 6 days ago (Sunday) I found a firm but smooth oval lump in my right breast - only easy to find when lying down (I have large E cup breasts). I booked straight away to see the doctor.

I went to see my GP who couldn't find it at first but then when I lay down she could. She said it's 2cm across but not to worry, it could be gristle. She examined my lymph nodes and didn't appear to find anything.

I'm now on the 3 working day wait to get the call for my hospotal appointment...but with the weekend the earliest it will be is Monday or Tuesday if I'm lucky. In the bath last night I discovered a probably 1cm long firm oval bump under my armpit which feels like it could be a lymph node. This is where my panic has fully set in and I have barely slept a wink. It looks like this combo can only mean one thing - although I honestly don't know if the armpit lump was there before and just because I was really closely looking I've found it.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I have recently changed my contraceptive pill...twice...so my glimmer of hope is that my breast tissue has reacted to that.

Because it now could be more advanced than just the lump, is there anyone I can call or anything I can do over the weekend to see someone sooner? I keep shaking and wanted to throw up when I think about it.

If they find a lump in your suspected lymph node too, does the 2 week waiting time shorten?

I'm feeling run down and coldy - so my throat glands are up a bit. Worried that could be connected.

I will try my GP today to see if I can speak her on the off chance she is working on a Saturday.

Thanks very much,

Sally

P.s I'm mid way through my menstrual cycle - in case that is useful info. I was on Yasmin contraceptive, then went on a higher oestrogen one for 3 months (where my breasts got bigger and painful and it was generally crap - GP misunderstood a symptom (spotting) and thought I needed higher oestrogen). Now I'm back on Yasmin again. It's 7 months until my wedding and I didn't want to mess up my hormones and skin by coming off the pill but now I wish I had!

  • Oh I'm so pleased for you. I know what you mean about the biopsy but they see hundreds of people every month and know what they're looking for. Keep an eye on things and if anything changes, go back to your GP.  But try not to think about it - you've got the all clear from the experts xx

  • Thanks for your reply, sorry for not getting back to you I've been so poorly with the flu.  I feel a little better about it all this week and I will just keep an eye for any changes.

Hope all goes well tomorrow hun, let me know how you get on. Xxx

  • Sorry to hear you've been poorly, no doubt all that stress and worry caught up with you.

Thanks so much for remembering my appointment.

This morning I was a bag of nerves - I took myself off to an early yoga class to try and get myself together. It definitely helped - to anyone reading this in the same position, keep yourself busy and do exercise that makes you feel good, it really helps.

Mine was also good news - just a cyst underneath glandular breast tissue which made it feel hard and fixed to the breast wall. The nurse did a physical examination and then an ultrasound - I couldn't bare to look at the screen for ages but there it was, clear as day, a black circle (about 5mm). So strange as it definitely felt long and oval (my GP noted it down as 2cms), and not like any descriptions I had read online. It wasn't soft, round or what I would have described as moveable - although the nurse said she thought it was moveable in her terms.

She said I didn't need anything else and sent me off home - insisting I go out for a nice lunch. I'm pretty sure, now i've looked into cysts (I had ruled them out a couple of weeks ago) it was caused by going on a higher oestrogen pill for 3 months.

For anyone who has found a similar lump and is desperately trying to get info, mine is in my upper inner quadrant of my right breast. It didn't roll around under the skin and it felt quite large and firm - and oval shaped, like a firm ridge. My right breast has always been bigger than my left but I could have sworn the difference had got bigger too. And after finding the lump, I discovered my lymph node under my right armpit was bigger than my left. But it was just a small cyst in the end, and a whole lot of panic and Googling. And my lymph nodes were normal - she struggled to even find them.
