Positive FIT test has led to an urgent referral. Terrified

I am 32 and have suffered from IBS for a number of years. In the last year, since having my daughter, my symptoms have become much worse. I had blood tests last month and did the FIT test. On Friday the GP rang me as my test had come back with an abnormal result. He said they needed to make an urgent referral for a colonoscopy as they were looking for more sinister causes for the blood such as cancer. I'm so worried that I have bowel cancer. I have had a change in bowel habits in the last month and I've googled too much and scared myself. My family are very positive and are trying to make me think positively but I am just so scared.

  • Aww [@Wanderer1970]‍ , not much longer to go now. I hope it goes okay on Tuesday and you get a good result and you can put all this behind you. Is tomorrow your moviprep day? I hope that's not too horrible. My hints and tips from the hospital for it says drink it chilled through a straw, and have something to read in the bathroom!

Out of curiosity did your allowed food also specify Yorkshire puddings? I'm in Yorkshire and wondered if cutting out Yorkies was deemed a step too far for us Northerners! X

  • Thanks. It killed me to not have Yorkshires  and gravy today! However I wasn't told to avoid them. It's plain, unhealthy food I've been advised to eat.. white bread/rice/pasta and to avoid fruit and veg. I've got some custard for this evening, then I'm full fasting tomorrow. X

  • Hi [@Wanderer1970]‍

I hope today went okay and you're back at home recovering now.

  • Good morning! It's very good news as far as the scope is concerned.  I have a couple of small internal piles, but otherwise a health colon! I really wasn't expecting good news. So can I just say for anyone waiting for theirs, my FIT result was 171 and I had pain in left hand side for past couple of months, but got the all clear. So please keep positive ️

  • That's brilliant news! So pleased for you! I bet that's a massive relief for you :) xx

  • Yayyy!  Oh [@Wanderer1970]‍ thats such brilliant news,

im so pleased for you! You must be so relieved. Hope you fully recover from the scope soon, and celebrate with some non-beige food! X

  • Morning everyone!

today was my colonoscopy day, and it's been cancelled as I had a nightmare with the moviprep and the hospital don't think my bowels are empty  I'm so so gutted. Especially after 5 days of prep.

My body doesn't agree with the moviprep. I drank the first litre at 8am yesterday. Tasted grim but did the job. Drank half of the second litre at 5:00pm and then just violently vomited it up. Tried again at 8:00pm - violent vomiting again twice (I was amazed how much liquid was inside me!). So i haven't kept enough down for it to do its job.

has anyone else had bad experience with moviprep? And any tips for picolax?

  • Hiya sorry I just wondered when you had your bloods done did they come back fine ?

  • Hi everyone,

I would be grateful too for any tips with moviprep! I am 38 and had a fit result over 400 and going in for colonoscopy next Friday. I have heard moviprep is very hard to take.
Also looking to know if anyone has or knows of anyone with a fit result over 400 that was something very simple.
I've been bleeding for over a year and a half, progressively getting worse, almost every day with bloatedness, very gassy, irregular bowels etc and I'm very worried.

  • I was also very nervous about taking the prep but actually found it no trouble at all.  I made up the prep in a large jug which I kept in the fridge, then  I put diluting juice into my glass, then filled it up with the prep. I also had a glass of water to take with it. I stopped solids 30 hours before, then just had custard and lots of fluid. I was so nervous about the procedure that I wasn't even hungry anyway. Good luck x
