Worried, found two lumps on breast

I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I recently went to my GP as I had pain in my armpit which came on very suddenly and I had found a small lump in this area. I was given antibiotics and the Dr confirmed she could feel a lump and told me to go back one week later if the antibiotics didn't clear it.

The pain and lump was still present so I went back, saw another GP and she examined me and explained the lump is actually in my breast and not armpit albeit very close. She referred me to the breast clinic saying it was routine to and I am still waiting for the appointment to come through.

This evening I felt another lump on the same breast which is small and hard. It was painless until I started to feel it then it became slightly tender. I am very worried and only 26 years old with a young son. My maternal grandmother had BC and I'm terrified. The appointment hasn't come through yet and I can imagine I am in for a very long wait. Should I go back to the GP to tell them of the newly discovered lump or wait until my appointment.

Could it be BC or is it likely to be something else? Probably an impossible question but I am just looking for some reassurance I suppose.

  • Hi there

sorry your experiencing problems. You’re right, we can’t know what’s going on, neither can you or your GP hence why you’ve been referred to a breast clinic to have it looked at. It could be a number of things, as you are very young that stats are in your favour as st your age it would be rare for this to be cancer. Cancer lumps are not painful, so perhaps your’re feeling a cyst or fibroid.

It’s good that your go has referred you to the breast clinic as they have the technology to get to the bottom of this. Try not to worry too much, I’m sure thatvyoung son of your will keep you busy until breast clinic day. Do keep in touch x

  • Hello and thanks for posting on the forum,

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling worried.

I can understand that it is stressful waiting to find out about when your appointment is, but hopefully you will be seen soon. Lumps in breasts are quite common and most of them are harmless particularly at your age.  Most people seen in breast clinics are found not to have cancer.

Try not to keep feeling the lump because by constantly examining yourself it will make it feel quite sore.

The charity Breast Cancer Care have some information on their website about visiting a Breast Clinic.  Have a look here

We can't diagnose what your new breast lump is. If you are concerned about your new lump then do let your doctor know.

I hope that this has been helpful.  If you would like to give us a ring to talk this through then please do so.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best Wishes,

    Catherine
