Precancerous polyp removed now what?

Hi,

I've been back and forth with the gp about my symptoms going on 6 months now. I have had yellow mucus in poo, abdominal discomfort constantly in the upper left side under ribs and to top it off I suffer from health anxiety. All this has made me worry I have bowel cancer.

I'm 28 years old so when I went to doctors he said it is IBS and offered a stool test. It came back as slightly inflamed.

I then pushed for a colonoscopy and he booked me in for a sidmoidoscopy. Don't no why I couldn't have the whole test.

I'm waiting 2 more months pass and still nothing so I paid for a private sidmoidoscopy and they found a polyp and removed it.

5 weeks later I get my results and the polyp it's removed was pre cancerous and low grade. He was very blunt and not helpful at all but he suggests now I get the full colonoscopy. So now I have to go back to my gp tommorow and go back on the waiting list.

Thing is it's not getting any better I'm still in pain and my stools are like rabbit droppings they are tiny. Has anyone else experienced this ? I feel like I'm in a long battle where gps just don't seem to take me seriously, will I now be fast tracked because they have found a precancerous polyp. And what does it mean to find one is it likely to have cancer higher up now?

I also don't think I can deal with the procedure again my bowls are apparently narrow he has me tossing and turning so he could get round the bends and to do it all again is petrifying can they not do something else !!

My mind is running riot and I'm so scared for.my future

Please advise.

  • Hi Simo1990,

I noticed no-one had replied to you yet so I just wanted to check in and see how you got on when you went back to your GP the other day.

I hope they were able to answer your questions and let you know what happens next but if you'd like to talk things through with someone then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully you'll hear from some of our members who have been in this situation soon as well.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks I no the anxiety has days where it gets the better of me.

I just wish this pain in my left side would go and until I get a diagnosis I am just panicking. My gp gpd referred me back to a specialist but they are not seeing me until November. This sounds like a long time considering something is still causing my pain and potentially I may have another polyp.

Anyway il keep the post updated on my next steps just hope I get to the bottom of it and can stop feeling way.

  • Thanks, I went back to gp he still did not have my results from the private clinic so having to wait longer but he has put me forward to see a specialist.
