Skin Cancer Worries - advice needed

Hi everyone,

I suffer quite badly with health anxiety and a couple of years ago I became quite obsessed that a particular mole had turned bad. It is what you would describe as atypical but had been that way for I’m almost sure my whole life. I was referred to a dermatologist who agreed it was atypical but did not feel that it was anything sinister to remove as it hadn’t changed.

I still Check it most days to make sure that it isn’t changing and to try and ease my anxiety. The mole itself (ie size and colouring) have not changed but I have noticed some dry skin around the mole. It’s almost like the skin doesn’t want to grow over the mole? I am not sure if anyone else has experienced this and wanted to get some advice on what this may be and If this Is a symptom.

The mole itself is on my foot area so I do have dry skin around but it just seems peculiar that dry skin would formulate around the mole almost asif Skin cannot grow over the mole.

I have shown my partner who thinks I’m being silly but this just doesn’t seem right to me?

I will of course book a doctors appointment but with weeks of worry ahead I would appreciate any advice/ or anyone who has experienced something similar.

Thanks,

Sally Jane

  • Hi,

I've been a melanoma patient for many years and I suffer from dry skin, especially on my legs where I have a lot of moles. My moles never get dry like the skin surrounding it - probably to do with the surface of the moles. Skin doesn't grow over moles either. I agree you should get it checked out with your GP but I think it will be fine. Meanwhile, use a good moisturiser on your foot, either E45 dry skin cream or, if it's on the sole of the foot, use Scholl foot cream. Good luck and please let us know how you get on,
