Lumpectomy

Hey everyone,

I had surgery yesterday to remove 2 lumps from my breast but was given no info on after care. When did you take your dressing off? And how long did you wait to shower?

I had this surgery last year but can’t remember the timings of it all!

Thanks in advance x

  • Hello, I showered as normal but made sure I didn't get the area socking wet...my dressing came away naturally after about a week, in the end I tweaked them off as they were practically off anyway...do you have your follow up appointment? Don't forget your exercises to keep everything supple and help prevent cording....I do hope the nurse gave you some info on this? Xx

  • Ah okay, perfect thank you! I don’t have my follow up appointment yet, I was told it will be in 5-6 weeks time. I was given no information at all - quite frustrating! Am I right in believing cording only really happens after lymph node removal? I only had 2 lumps removed that are believed to be fibroadenomas xx

  • My follow up was about 2 weeks post lumpectomy, maybe with fibroadenoma it's not necessary...that kinda makes sense...

and your probably right ref cording too....xxxx

  • That’s what I was thinking too, the complete lack of info from the hospital doesn’t help though! Maybe I’ll give them a call on Monday to follow up..

Thank you so much for replying xxxx

  • Hi there I had a lumpectomy Just over four weeks ago. My results took four weeks and got the results on Thursday. Unfortunately they found invasive cancer cells in the tissue which had good margins. Anyway I have to have lymph node surgery this week. Feeling a bit anxious as what to expect afterwards. The lumpectomy site has just about settled nicely now as well and here we go again. Have got the exercise sheet!

  • Hello Mary,

isnt it a shock? I felt I was having an outer body experience when the consultant was telling me they found cancer....so surreal.....do you know how many nodes they are removing?

I got cording after my op, but the exercises helped....I felt it "pop" then it was much better...

  • Hi there Marlyn, yes it’s as if they are telling someone else, not you! Don’t think it has really sunk in yet. Was just getting over the lumpectomy. Not sur how many nodes, perhaps 3. Cording sounds awful, what is it? Have got my exercise sheet ready.

Hope you are doing ok now xx
