Worried about a panendoscopy

I'll try to cut a long story short, in April I had a lump come up on my neck that grew progressively over 3 weeks to look like a golf ball on the left side of my neck. I booked an appointment with my GP, who urgently referred me. I had a biopsy taken, which came back inconclusive, followed by a CT and MRI scan, these came back clear and a fine needle aspiration which also came back inconclusive, although no cancer cells were detected. The lump has now gone down and cannot be seen but I have an appointment next week for a panendoscopy and excision of the mass. The excision doesn't bother me but I don't understand why I need a panendoscopy, just wondering if anyone had been through anything similar as I wasnt really informed about the panendoscopy until my pre op and it didn't sink in until I went home.

Sorry about the rambling I'm driving myself insane!

  • Hi Gem86,

I'm glad to hear your tests have gone well so far although I understand you're worried about the next appointment. Unfortunately I can't offer much advice with your question, but my reply here will boost your post so others will see it and if anyone has similar experience hopefully they'll be along soon.

The only thing I can suggest is perhaps the medical team are looking for additional peace of mind.

If you'd like to discuss anything with our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi  I had a biopsy Panendoscopy on Friday.  the consultant told me BEFORE the biopsy that it wasn’t cancer  I have /had / NO lump in or around my neck or throat  just a cough for a few months. SO  now on tenterhooks awaiting the Histology results.
I DO know how you feel and the waiting is dreadful.  I had 5 hospital appts in 9 days and went in for the biopsy a week later. WELL DONE NHS!!

leta hope the negativity continues and it is, just that  negative  xxxx
