One minute I’m fine the next I’m being tested?

So on Monday I went for what I thought was a routine pelvic scan. Within an hour I received a call from my GP who was referring me to Gynae as I had cysts on both overies.  Not concerned about the 3cm cyst on my right overy, but the one on my left was 7cm in her words “massive” so she was fast tracking a referral. I had my Gynae appointment yesterday (fri) hoping to be told I’ll just have operation to remove my overies as I don’t need them as had Hysterectomy 7 years ago.  Then she mentioned that word?  The Cyst has some solid matter and this was concerning.  I’m only 43 premenopausal with no symptoms.  So I was sent straight for CA125 CEA BHCG and another blood test I can’t remember.  I have a CT scan of torso on Monday?  She said to make sure no other masses anywhere else!  But all my recent xrays and scans have been clear.

This has scared me to say the least.  I can’t get it out of my head.  My 3 children, my husband etc etc.  Is this normal practice to go all out before surgery?  I asked why not just whip them out and she said they needed to know what it may be first.

  • Hi bex1975,

I'm sure all of this is worrying - it's of course natural to be concerned and uncertain. I'm sure that the doctors are just looking to find everything out first and foremost, so they can then decide on the best course of action.

I see that today is your CT scan, so hopefully you'll get some more answers either today or soon.

In the meantime try to stay positive and keep yourself distracted and busy - although I know this is often easier said than done.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Ben

thank you.  My scan was so quick once they found a vein! Just a waiting game now.  Think MDT team is Thursday.  I’m trying to keep positive but struggling to eat because of the anxiety.

  • So update is.  I have a clinic appointment on Monday.  I have no idea about results, but I guess I’ll find out then.  Keeping everything crossed but I’m so scared.

  • Update

It’s not Cancer.  Turns out my ovaries fell I. To middle and adhered to each other with a cyst on each.  One has endometriosis and the other bleeding.  They also stuck to my vowel and possibly bladder so a big op to remove it all.  I am lucky I know.  The glimpse of what could have been and the worry put many things in to perspective anc has certainly given me a new outlook.
