Please read. Referred to Breast Clinic.

Hi, We came back from our family holiday in June and a few days later I felt pain around my shoulder blade... I also had pain in the breast and the mirrored each other. Anyway, I went to the doctor and he said suspected muscle damage and to give it a couple of weeks. He had a feel of both breasts and couldn't feel any lumps or thickening etc... I've still got the pain in both my back and breast (not an ouch pain, more just a niggle) my nipple has been a bit itchy, not to the point where it's gone red... I'm just aware of it now and again, more so when I've got no bra on or when I'm thinking about it. I suffer with health anxiety so my head is all over the place. I've been back today and I've had a referral to the breast clinic. I've read up on breast cancer, IBC & Pagets disease of the nipple and I'm so scared! I don't even know why I'm writing this as I don't know what I want to say... I'm just worried. I'm 31 with 2 boys. No known history of cancer or breast cancer in the family. I'm scared of leaving my babies!!!

  • Oh Kelly, I totally understand your worry. I'm so glad you have been referred..it will soon get to the bottom of things. I just wanted to say your not on your own with the worrying.......I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Dec...fast forward to now and fingers crossed I'm in the the clear....but a few days ago the " good boob" started to itch and I rather stupidly googled and it came up with  pagets! So of course I'm totally stressing over it.....my sensible head is saying.....but you had a mammogram and ultra sound in January ( all clear) but the silly head is saying......what if???

Im just relieved I have an onco appointment for next week as I will defo be mentioning it.....so you see....the imagination can be a real enemy...

it is worth remembering that 8/9 out of 10 referrals are innocent and your  young....but I do understand it won't stop you worrying....

let us know how you get on at the clinic? X

  • Ps......forget to say pagets is pretty rare.....xx

  • Thank you for your comment Marlyn. I'm so happy that you are on the mend! The brain and anxiety is a strange but wonderful thing isn't it. Mine works against me most of the time. I'm reading and reading over things I've already read and its driving me mad. I'm constantly checking my boobs to see if theres any change. Redness. Swelling. Pitting. Nipple retraction etc... I've read that the back pain could be breast cancer that has spread!!!!! So now I'm panicking even more. I only got referred yesterday, so I'm in for a bit of a wait yet... I dont think it's the cancer itself that scares me... it's not being able to fight it and leaving my babies behind. Its heartbreaking! Good luck at your next appointment. I'm sure you will be absolutely fine ♡ xx

  • I know what you mean about the constant checking! I'm actually driving myself nuts going to the bathroom mirror and whipping it out to check....lol......we'll BOTH be fine....xx

  • I hope so lovely. I really hope so. Fingers, toes and everything crossed ♡♡♡

  • Hi Kelly,

Just wanted to say that I too had a referral to the breast clinic yesterday. My gp didn't think it was any thing to worry about and told me to put it to the back of my mind. Easier said than done!!! I do have a lump and now I can't stop looking at it. Anyway, i just wanted to say you are not alone!!! And I hope you get good news at the clinic. My gp did say that most people who they refer to the clinic do not actually have cancer.

  • Thank you ♡

Yeah it's not easy to take your mind off it is it. I suffer with health anxiety so I find it really difficult to switch off from it. My doctor pretty much said the same... she said if it comes back as nothing (which she was assuming it will) then we will look at what the back pain could be. If its connected to my breast muscle or sholder blade. Dr google said it could be breast cancer that's spread. I should know better than googling... but it's so hard not too! I really do hope you are ok! It's such a worrying time. I keep looking at my boys and welling up. Works really quiet too so I'm just sat around thinking! Fingers crossed for us both chick xxx

  • Yeh it's really really scary!!! I too am sat in work with nothing to do but worry. I've been reading and rereading things on the internet and have worked myself into a right old state. But what we have to remember is that our drs have said they dont think it's any thing to worry about. The sooner we get our appointments and get some reassurance the better. And you know what, even if its not the news we want at least we are seeing the right people and are headed in the right direction!

  • Right... let's agree to avoid google and either talk ok here or just wait and hope for the best from our appointment. It's making us worse In the long run. ♡ xx

  • Yeh I agree to that! Message me if you need a chat, we are both in the same boat xxx
