Diagnosis from X-Ray

Hi,

Very long story short, my mum found a lump and was immediately sent for an x-ray. They called her approx 90mims after she got home and gave her an app the next day to see the GP. On Friday, the GP said it was cancer and it had spread but they don’t know yet where it’s started. They’ve done blood tests and we’re waiting for those results. Can they definitely say it’s cancer from the x-Ray?

    Very sorry to hear about your Mum’s diagnosis.

    There are certain features that Doctors can look for on xrays and scans that can provide a lot of information, including whether or not something appears to be a cancer. 

    Biopsies are still required for an exact diagnosis to help plan treatment though. 

    I’m sure they wouldn’t give you a diagnosis unless they were convinced.

    Thanks Rich, we’re just in limbo right now. We’re waiting for a scan but we don’t know what type/where the cancer started or what the prognosis is. She had blood tests done but she won’t call for the results. I feel so helpless right now.

    I can well imagine how difficult it must be for you and your family at the moment, and how scary it must be for your Mum.

    It’s an awful lot for you all to take in and process and your Mum may not have fully accepted it yet.

    Macmillan have some really useful around talking about cancer that you May find useful. There’s plenty of support here too.
