Question about ultrasound technician

I had my two scans today in/externally, I think I’m so naive!

I was think the technician or radiologist(sorry don’t know the term!) would talk me through the scan, tell me about his observations etc but I was told any questions I have my GP can answer!

I thought I am here right now, so why can’t he tell me?

Another time when he was observing a place for some time I asked a question and the assistant or nurse told me to stop asking questions as he needs to concentrate!

oops probably embarrassed myself a bit too much, before I left he said my GP will look at the images and be in touch.

why did I think he could tell me if he noticed anything unusual? Is this how it is, just more waiting?

  • It's just the way it is Lmg24. Radioligsts are trained to take, look at and decipher scans, unfortunately they are not supposed to tell you anything. You may have noticed how busy it was when you were having scans so i imagine that they just do the scans, have an initial quick look and then get the next patient in. Not everything on a scan is immediately visible and they may need to look at it in closer detail. Sadly, we all have to wait.

Regarding you talking during it. I assume you were told to keep as perfectly still as possible and even though you think you weren't moving, just talking moves parts of our insides which in turn could distort the images and make them blurry.

I wish we could hear something while we are there but could you imagine if it was bad news ? The radioligist/nurse would no doubt need to explain a lot to you and quite possible console you, they aren't trained for that, it's not their job.

Obviously my answer to you isn't technical or may not even be correct but it is just my view, my view as someone who is waiting to hear news just like you.
