Low grade fever for 3 weeks that isn't an infection

18/M

I've been suffering from a low grade fever of around 37.3C to 37.5C for the past few weeks.  I've been to a GP and at first he told me it was anxiety and gave me some meds. I didn't get much better so I went to the GP again, who gave me some different meds, and after taking those, everything but the fever was pretty much fixed, aside from some occasional aching and headaches. I went to the GP again today, and he tweaked the meds again, but still doesn't really know why I still have a fever.  I had a CBC blood test, and the results came out fine, and the GP says the blood test shows I don't have inflammation.

I've taken even more meds and the fever still hasn't broken yet, it hasn't gotten any worse or any better.  I also occasionally feel light headed, and my muscles often twitch, but that could be because of the medicine that's supposed to make you fatigued.

I'm getting really worried becuase I still don't know where the fever is coming from, all I know is it isn't from an infection, which is freaking me out even more because i'd rather get an infection since they're easy to treat.  I'm thinking that i've gotten cancer and I don't know what to do.  I don't know if I should schedule another appointment with the GP or like get a full body MRI scan to make sure I don't have any tumors.

  • Hi

yeah same happens to me. What reason does your gp tell you for your raised temperature. Mine told me that I have run down but I think there is something actually going on inside.

  • Hey. Well it was 38.2 to 37.7 most days but for the past two days it had remanined below 37.7 and this is the first time in the past month it’s ever gone as low as 36.9. Which is great news. I just don’t want it to go back up now. Did anyone else has episodes like this where it went down? Does it raise or has everyone’s constantly been high

  • So basically when i went to see my go i took my thermometer too so she could check them both. She said mine shows a few degrees higher and hers wasn't but the reason hers showed less was because she was barely touching my ear... and when i told her she said thats how they take the temperature and she said that i should not worry as my temperature is normal.. i know it is not because when it does go up my face gets red and hot. Also when i feel a bit normal it is usually 37.5/6. I even spoke to a different gp last week and because i had a telephone consultation she basically said the same thing as the other gp that saw me. I really do not know what to do anymore.

  • Did the gp give you any test to do? Also i am thinking if anxiety or stress can cause this? I have been dealing with anxiety for almost a year now..

  • Hi,

I have blood tests this monday. Yes I spoke to a family doctor and he told me anxiety can also cause this coz I don't have any other symptom. Its just this fever that goes up in a matter of minutes.

  • Let me know how you get on and o hope they come back fine. Have you been under a lot of stress or anxiety lately? I have been reding online what can cause these symptoms and im even more worried now

  • Yeah I have gone through alot if stress and anxiety in the last month. But the thing is that I had this low grade fever two months ago as well and I got normal after 6-7 days then after 15 days I had it again fir like a week and got normal again but this time now I have this for like three weeks so If this is coz of anxiety than why did I have those fever? I am so confused.

  • Hi. Thats really good I hope it remains low. Mine get to normal at night when I'm in bed but as soon as I get up it goes up.

  • Fingers crossed. As I’m not allowed back to work till it drops below 37.7 and if during the day it goes above that I would be exprexted to go home however I have a list of patients all day so that can’t be practical. My work have been amazing and have encouraged me to ask my GP to investigate further.

In general how is everyone feeling like do you feel you have a fever or do you feel unwell xx

    best of luck everyone xx

  • Do you get any other symptoms apart from low grade fever?
