Acid reflux??

I have had a bad throat, hoarse voice and now trouble with my ear.

I do have acid reflux and am on lansoprozile and so now take one at night too.  I feel so unwell and have now had a chest xray and awaiting results.  My blood tests are all clear, had two lots of antibiotics, doctors say my throat is ok although it is sore and now effecting my ear when I swallow. I have trouble swallowing some food and the result of my gastrocopy is clear.  I have had this since May and it is making me tired and feeling rough.  Doctors just say it is Acid reflux and now given me another tablet to take at night.   It just seems that is their answer and yet I am having to live with it. can not find an answer.

  • Hi Jencats,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about the difficulties you've been having recently.

I'm glad you've been to the doctor and that they're looking into it. The only thing I can suggest is to try to trust them and the advice they give. If things continue, you can always make a repeat appointment further down the line.

If it helps to be proactive, you could write down your symptoms and make a note of how they are each day - to see if it's getting better or worse or staying the same.

I hope things improve for you soon.

  • Hi

Thankyou for your reply.  I will do that.  It just seems to have gone on since May.

Hoping it will clear up soon. But if not will go back to doctor.

  • Hi @Jencats, sorry you are suffering. I don't have acid reflux but am suffering with something very similar. Although my voice went completey for around 10 weeks, i have pain which i thought was in my ear but it could possibly be my jaw, i can't really determine where it is coming from, sore throat only comes to me now and again but one thing that was suggested to me was that it could be something to do with the jaw joint.  I have left a link to the NHS website on the condition which you may want to read

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/temporomandibular-disorder-tmd/  there are other websites than explain it better but that is a good starting point.

My GP suggesting visiting the Dentist as it could be down to grinding your teeth which i don't do as i wear dentures or it could be down to poor dental work. If you grind your teeth then your dentist can make you a mouthguard to stop you from grinding them.

I know i am not medically trained nor do i claim to know what is wrong with you or me for that matter but it could be a possibilty for you.

I hope you find some answers.
