Lump, severe breast pain and numbness in arm

I’m 38 years old and a Mum to 2 boys. I was diagnosed with fibroadenoma 3 years ago. My breasts are very lumpy and usually swell and are painful before my period. Since Easter I’ve had some strange pain in what I thought was my chest (like a burning pain deep inside like I’d pulled a muscle) I moved house around this time so assumed it could be that but went to gp who checked me over. My last period my breasts were really swollen and painful. I’m due on my period again next week and for 2 weeks I’ve had almost unbearable constant pain in my left breast, I have a lump (where the fibroadenoma lump is)  and also pain to the side of my breast, I feel a strange numb feeling constantly going down my left arm beyond my elbow. I went to my gp last Monday who has referred me to the breast clinic at my local hospital. I’m worried sick and keep panicking, I had skin cancer 2 years ago which hasn’t helped my anxiety....I’m thinking the worst as I’ve never had symptoms like this. You can clearly see one breast is bigger than the other. Has anyone else had symptoms like this?

Thank you for reading and strength and best wishes to anyone who is fighting this awful disease xxx

  • Hi Bex1980,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about what you've been going through - I can certainly understand this is worrying. Any uncertainty and waiting for answers like this is always difficult.

It's good to hear that you've been to the GP and that you've got a referral - I hope you manage to get some answers soon, and once you do you will at least have a path forward and next steps. I hope you don't have too long to wait for your appointment.

It's understandable to think the worst and it's very common to do so. I know it's so much easier said than done but try to stay as positive as possible, or to distract yourself, rather than dwelling on anything too much, if you can.

Meanwhile hopefully some others will be along here soon to share any similar experiences - my reply here will boost your post so more people should see it.

Wishing you all the best and I hope you find the forum useful,

    Ben

  • Dear Bex,

I hope you are doing well.

I hope you don't mind me asking about your results?

    All the best,

    Ilna

  • Dear llna. Its another fibroadenoma very close to my other one. Consultant said it was significant and would remove them both as they are hurting so much, but I’m not sure what to do. Part of me thinks things should be left alone but the pain I keep getting is unbearable. Of course there is no guarantee they won’t return again. Thank you for reading and replying to my post. I hope all is ok with you. Bex
