I'm just looking for some advice about where to go from here (if anywhere...)
I found a small discolouration on my breast around 8 weeks ago, after recognising this and looking properly at my breasts for (admittedly) the first time I noticed what looked like 'orange peel skin' that only occurred when I pulled the skin back - I've lost 2 stone recently so there's more skin there than normal! I wasn't worried but booked an appointment with the GP just in case. The GP told me that he wasn't concerned but would refer me to the breast clinic anyway, just n case. The nurse who was in the room also reminded me to lift my arms when self-examining from now on.
I went away without worry and glad that I had been referred. I then spent the next 6 weeks googling and becoming worried (as you do) and then I lifted my arms to self-examine and realised that there was a dimple on the same breast I was concerned about. After reading some stories of people whose first sign of cancer was a dimple, I was suddenly very glad I was going to the breast clinic.
I arrived 40 minutes early and was taken to see the doctor 35mins before my appointment was actually due. He asked me to explain why I was there and I did. "It all began with what looked like a spot..." as I was talking I realised he was paying less attention as he talked over me when I mentioned the dimple. During the examination (which lasted 30seconds at most) he guided me to feel what he described as a 'pimple' on my breast and I agreed that was normal. He said he wasn't worried and that I could now go home as he washed his hands. He asked if I had any questions before he left, I was angry at this point feeling like I had been treated like a silly girl who was worried about nothing. I said "What about the dimple?" He replied "I'm not worried." And then left.
Looking back on it, I feel I was rushed through and am worried that he thought I said 'pimple' instead of 'dimple'. Do I leave it and trust the professional? Do I contact my GP? I'm 28 so not eligible for breast screening. Any suggestions? Also if you made it all the way down to here, thank you for reading my novel!!
