Waiting for Diagnosis complex ovarian cyst

On the 28th May I had an ultrasound scan which showed that I had abnormal uterus on the left and my right ovary had a mass which measured 4.75cm in diameter. I was referred to the gynea team for further tests and an appointments was made for 14th November.

On 29th May I was admitted to hospital as I was  bleeding from the bowel and had severe pain in the lower abdomen. I was treated for my colitis flare up as I have ulcerative colitis and painful bladder syndrome.  The doctor asked about my periods as they had seen the ultrasound  I explained I am having a lot of problems and my symptoms are irregular bleeding,  constipation,  diarrhoea , water infections,  period clotting, severe abdominal pain,  extreme fatigue and period lasting much longer than normal.  This has been going on for approx 12 months.

My bowel consultant ordered a CT scan which I had on the 7th June.  The results showed that the mass had grown a further 2cm diameter and that there was a solid characteristics. He paged the gynea team to come and see me right away to discuss what it meant.

The gynea consultant explained that it had changed from a simple mass to a complex mass and that i  am going to need surgery and require a mri scan of my pelvis. I was discharged from hospital and sent home with morphine for the pain and was told that I would be seen within 4 weeks.

Is this normal? I am going out of my mind and I know I shouldn't but can't stop researching .

How was you diagnosed and how quickly was you seen?

Lorraine xx

  • Anxious and waiting for response, thanks x

  • Hello,

Just had an ultrasound and found an adnexal mass, mainly cystic with solid components. Appearance suggestive of malignancy.

I will be referred to the Gynecology, but I'll probably die of anxiety before. Can't sleep, can't eat, can't stop crying.

I don't know how people cope with this waiting. It's killing me.

  • I completely know how you feel.

My appointment is on Thursday with my consultant.

Unfortunately I had to go private as the nhs was not able to stay within their promised guidelines of 4 weeks. I received my mri appointment was set for 26th July and colposcopy was set for 24th August which is 7 weeks past the 4 weeks guidelines. Due to this I had to go private.

I couldn't imagine having to wait so long. I'm exhausted, bloated, in pain and struggling so need answers.

Have you had any appointments through yet? Xx

  • Good luck on Thursday! Hope you get some answers.

I am trying to stop myself from 'Googling' as it is giving me anxiety, and everybody says it's actually not that accurate. I am seeing somebody on Thrusday as well, private too. I can't cope with the wait.

  • I know what you mean. I had a day of no internet yesterday as I was diving myself insane.

Good luck on Thursday, please do let me know how you get on xx

  • I know exactly how you feel! I've been diagnosed with right multilioculated adnexal 7cm cyst. I am terrified. Had a scan and was sent straight to a gynaecologist a day later. They done blood work C125 to check tumour markers. I have to hide away from my family as all I keep doi is crying. They warned me that they don't know what it is and could be cancer. I have muscular dystrophy and type two respiratory failure - how the hell am I going to cope with treatment if it is the worst case scenario. I am anxious. Scared. Lonely. I get my results on Friday.

  • Hello Ladies,

just wondering how you both got on with your multiloculated cysts? I've been trying to conceive for a couple of years and last month they found a multiloculated cyst in the lining of my uterus. My gp said it's quite rare and couldn't give me any more info. Waiting for a referral to the gynaecologist now. Fertility treatment has a 62+ week waiting list in my area so I am really anxious because everything has taken so long to get to this point.

hope this finds you both well
