Urology app

hi I’m posting this on behalf of my dad who recently had a blood in his urine for 4days, he went to the doctors where they done urine test which came back clear of any infection so they referred him to urology.

At his appointment they ran blood tests (came back clear) another urine sample (this time no trace of blood) and he had a ct scan. They then gave him another appointment for 18th June we’re they said they’ll perform a cystoscopy and give him the ct scan results.

I was just wondering if this is standard procedure? He’s quite worried about having to wait 4 weeks until his next app any information would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

  • Hi Chelseatoo. Welcome to the forum.

I'm going through the same as your dad, having had a single instance of visible blood in my urine.  I've had everything as your father, although my CT and cystoscopy were only two days apart.  I had the cystoscopy results immediately (as I could watch it on the screen) and my CT results took about 4 weeks to come through.

FWIW, my cystoscopy showed a tiny growth in the bladder, which is either a small cancer or benign papilloma. The treatment is the same - a TURBT operation which is scheduled for 10 days time. The CT showed some bladder thickening, possibly due to the growth, and a kidney artery aneurism, which may or may not need treatment.

No one likes to wait for results, but there is some sense in having the CT results before the cystoscopy.

  • How are you doing now? What was the size of your growth do you know?

  • Hi Maw86.

I had the procedure in June 2019. I know the growth was a tiny cancer but no idea of its actual size. Since then I've had three follow up cystoscopies and I'm due another one now, but I'll probably have to wait due to Covid delays.  So far, all my follow ups have been clear, and I had no further blood in my urine.

  • I'm a newbie searching the forums! I have had an incidental 5mm polyp found ..told could be cancerous could be benign (not  helpful ) have Cystoscopy on Sunday ...been feelin extremely fearful! Doctors given me diazepam to calm me

  • Hi Maw86

5mm is very small, so it's probably been caught nice and early, in which case it's a simple operation to remove it and some follow up checks for the next 5 years.

    Good luck for Sunday.

  • I'm terrified :( I'm only 36 and fearful about what I have to face! I'm hopeful it's benign but I really don't hold much hope that it will be! I've had no symptoms as this was found while looking at my ovary

  • Do you know what size your was?

  • Do you mind if I add you as a friend and pop you inbox :)

  • It was around 5mm.

  • How was yours found? Had you had any symptoms or anything?
