Post menopausal bleeding

hi I am 51 . No period in 3 years then stared to bleed heavily . Doctor admitted me for scan . Scan showed 6mm womb lining . Ovaries fine cervix fine have been referred for hysterectomy and biopsy . I am so worried .bleeding stopped after about 4 to 5 days . Has anyone been through this I am so worried at the moment thanks

  • Great... The more people report these occurrences, the more likely this 'might' get looked into, and then the pharma companies will have to look at the submitted data and consider whether to include 'abnormal uterine bleeding' as a potential side effect.  Let's hope our biopsies all come back 'regular' and we can stop worrying about a potential cancer diagnosis.  xx

Will be interesting to see what response your Sister gets when she mentions it ??!   Have to say I'm not going for my 2nd jab in a hurry - if this could be an undocumented/unknown side effect, it makes me worry what else it might do.

  • Absolutely !.I' m 54 ( well next month ;) lol and between the ages of 28-43 had 5 D&C's  ,that many horrid invasive tests & even nearly passed out on the bus once when I was wearing a long summer dress ,bare legs & sandals & a s I stood up I thought truly that I'd wet myself..looked down & both of my sandals were full of blood..everyone saw & nobody helped me

i actually have a very complex health history with having MS ,Lupus & crohns disease ( all linked ) I eventually found out when I was about 43 that I have a few biggish FIBROIDS..and fibroids can cause terrible problems including weight gain ,painful bloated tummy ( yeah I got both.Anyway after getting so bad with really heavy non stop bleeding ( for me I bled up to 17 days a month & had to use super Tampax hourly & huge incontinence pads to stop my clothes being spoiled) anyway one day when I was about 47 my periods just stopped & I felt truly liberated ..

However...I have had a few micro bleeds lasting 1\2 a day ocer the passed 2yrs and blamed being autoimmune & today woke up with a fair amount of blood loss

,I had a bad experience with a male elderly gynaecologist in Brighton & quite frankly have shamefully not had a smear for 5 yrs & have had to self isolate for the full year due to Covid so couldnt go

.Anyway I too am worried sick like you because I have Long Covid after contracting it last Oct & my chest sounds horrendous..to top it all I have pain in my left breast ...have a normal chest x- ray  & more specialist type blood tests ( cancer screen tests) but am worried what will show up.( My mum had a double mastectomy aged 61)..I know I have to face my fear in getting anither smear too but having MS it hurts my spine like mad.

Sorry to tell you all this ...my point being is seriously get tested for FIBROIDS .because even elderly ladies well passed the menopause sometimes need a hysterectomy because of bleeding through fibroids..IF you are nit happy with your gynaecologist...then even within the NHS you have a right to actually see a female Dr & apparantly we have a right to choose the hospital / clinic too .

As I say my health probs are severe ,the Lupus alone makes me worn out & feel so incredibly ashamed to have sat in silence for months worryi g that somethings wrong for months...but to be honest with you even my doctors surgery in the Wirral is now doing 90% of their consultations on the phone since the pandemic...cant help people not having face to face appointments is going to cause major fallout!

I wish you all the cery best ,anytime you want to talk I am here & wont bore you with my stuff..just reading your post really resonated with me .Get yourself sorted & all being well its clear..then maybe look into a few natural remedies Black Coash for one great for uterine problens..but dont go down that self help route until youve had tests.I btw have waited since Oct 2019 to see a new neurologist ( came back up north in 2019 after my dad died) ..the very day we went into lockdown 23 March 2020 was my appt..I get seen for the first time on 8 th June some 18 mths of worry later...yeah Covid 19 has devastated the health of us all in the UK in so many ways ..Good luck Sophie xxx

  • Hi Murf,

Slept well, but awake early with cramping. Just feel yuk! Thinking I may need the day off. I'm a primary teacher and on my feet all day.

So, in answer to your 'just out of interest' questions. I'm 5'9", about 3 stone overweight,  Had my first vaccine on 24th March (Astra Zeneca).  Our cases have so many similarities.

I have changed my diet considerably. Switched to a WFPB (vegan but no processed foods) diet at end of March. I'd been having a lot of hip pain and was determined to loose weight and also I've suffered with depression since menopause and wanted to see if diet would help. Have lost 1.5 stone and have been feeling fantastic.  I have wondered if the change to super healthy diet prompted the bleed.

Oh, I came off the pill in Jan 19 and hadn't had a bleed since then.

By the way, I had no side effects from the covid vaccine, that I was aware off. I was on strong painkillers at the time for my hip so may have been masked by this. Haven't received second dose yet.

Going to read the article you posted and register my bleed.

Now just playing the waiting game until results arrive.

    Take care,

    Speak soon xx

  • Hi Flo,

how are you this evening.  Hope you've managed to rest today, did you have day off?  I too work in a primary school as a teaching assistant lol .  I'm feeling much better today thankfully and only 1 more day til half term... yay .

congratulations on your weight loss, that's brilliant.  I managed to get to my ideal weight in May 2019 as we went on a cruise to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.  Then during lockdown I put it all back on as I was comfort eating.  I def need to get the weight off again, but just can't get motivated.
Another thing I was wondering if you're experiencing is any abdominal swelling since your bleed?  My stomach hasn't felt/looked the same since my bleed.  It's very bloated and starts quite high up under rib cage - at its worst I literally look about 7 months pregnant.  Have you had anything similar?

Anyway... hope you are feeling ok.  Enjoy half term - looks like we might be blessed with some decent weather finally   ️ .

keep in touch - hope we get our letters soon.
    Take care, Murf. Xx

  • Hi Murf,

I ended up staying home. Just felt drained for most of the day.

Tried my jeans on to go outside this afternoon, but it just wasn't happening. Definitely bloated. Opted for leggings instead.

Feel much better this evening. Bleeding seems to have stopped. Just a bit anxious...all a waiting game now. Though I did look into the vaccine theory and it makes a lot of sense. Our dates are so similar. Do you have a date for second dose yet?

It's not a holiday Monday up here. We get the early May bank holiday. But I don't work Monday's, just do a four day week which is great. Some sunshine would be fab

    Keep in touch xx

  • Hi Murf,

Just wondering how you are doing and if you've had your results through yet. Nothing this end but managing to stay positive. At least another week to wait here.

    Flo x

  • Hi Flo,
Lovely to hear from you.  I'm still waiting for results too, which I'm hoping is a good sign - if anything was 'wrong' I'm thinking I'd have probably heard by now ??  Ditto for you hopefully too.
All bleeding stopped now which is also good and no after effects with infection etc, so all ok in that respect.  I am however still troubled by an uncomfortable feeling in my abdomen and it's still really bloated. Im also feeling hyper emotional/easily irritated and tearful (similar symptoms I had going through menopause, which seem to have flared up again ??) - though could be anxiety related perhaps, until get the all clear from biopsy.
How bout you... How are you feeling ?
    Love Murf x

  • Hi there,

Bleeding from biopsy stopped after first day. Have been feeling super anxious. Trying to keep busy which, lets face it, is really easy in a school

Came in from school yesterday, house empty, envelope from NHS so made a cup of tea and sat down to open it......thinking it was my results. Was my second vaccine appointment. So have that on Sunday. Will be interesting to see if I have another bleed.

Shouldn't have much longer to wait for results. I'm hoping, like you are, that if it was bad news, I'd have heard by now.

    Try and relax this weekend.

    xxx

  • Happy Saturday ladies, I am so happy that I found this forum as I have spent the last week googling and that was leading me to a dark place. I am 57 and passed though the menopause at 50 with relative ease compared to a lot of women. Last weekend I had some bleeding and rang the doctor on Tuesday morning who has immediately referred me under the 2 week appointment  system. I spent last night reading all the posts on here and I slept better last night so thank you. Hearing other women's experiences has certainly helped me to prepare for my appointment on 15th June.

Looking forward to a family bbq today to celebrate my nephews 30th so wishing you all a happy weekend and hope everyone who is waiting for results will get good news xxx

  • Hi Frankiesmum,

I have found this chat so helpful. It's so good being able to chat with others who are going through the same/similar experience.

Have a good day today celebrating your nephew's birthday.  Good luck on the 15th. Let me know how you get on.

    X
