Post menopausal bleeding

hi I am 51 . No period in 3 years then stared to bleed heavily . Doctor admitted me for scan . Scan showed 6mm womb lining . Ovaries fine cervix fine have been referred for hysterectomy and biopsy . I am so worried .bleeding stopped after about 4 to 5 days . Has anyone been through this I am so worried at the moment thanks

  • Thankyou for your reply. Good luck with your procedure. I hope it all goes well.  It's such a pain isn't it! You think your over all the periods etc then a worry like this. I chose to have my uterus kept when I had my prolapse repaired last February and was thoroughly investigated to make sure it was healthy before the op. I did have thickening of the lining but a hysteroscopy and biopsy showed no concerns. I have mesh repair so hoping it's nothing to do with that! Roll on Wednesday. X

  • Hello

I am 58yr, 9yrs menopausal  and had bleeding on and off for 5 weeks started out light pink and now dark brown. Saw the GP yesterday who has put me on the two week cancer pathway so should see a Dr soon. I'm having back ache and bloated tummy just like at period. I to have suffered extensive endometriosis, chocolate cysts on ovary, partial removal of ovary, 10 laparoscopies, a laparotomy, 4 failed IVF attempts, an ectopic pregnancy!!!! My entire reproductive system has let me down and I thought I was well over any more pain or investigations; seems not. I'm a bit worried but not overly as I can read from your posts maybe polyps or cysts, I did have cervical dysplasia 10yrs ago it was stage 1 and I had a biopsy and HPV was the cause which is the cause of cervical Ca. Just have to hold my cool and see what happens at the hospital. Thanks for all the info ladies.

  • Hi Charming have you had your appointment yet?

I am 54, 6 years since my last period. Over the last 4 months I had occasional spotting but 1 month ago I started bleeding daily. The colours range from pink to black over the course of the day. Strangely I used to be hot all the time, and have hot flushesbut that's also changed and now I am 'normal'. I do still have night sweats but they are mostly from the waist down.

I have an appointment on Friday for a scan and to see the consultant. Does anyone have any advice for the appointment or does my story sound familiar to anyone? Splum, how did you get on?
    thank you

  • Hi I know your post is from 2019 and I was wondering if you had any further developments?

I am 53 not had a period for almost 3 years now but for the last week or so I've got period pain, head aches and brown discharge/blood not lots like a period volume but enough on the tissue. I also feel extremely high strung and emotional. I can't seem to find any information on the internet and then I saw your post. I assumed it was just a menopausal thing as fir the last 3 years everything and anything gets put down to the menopause unfortunately.

if you have an update that would be great.

    thanks

  • So glad I found this chat. It has all been very reassuring and supportive.

Im 53 and haven't bled in over 2 years. I came off the pill in Jan 2019 and haven't bled since.

This week I had very tender breasts and a bit of cramping. Then yesterday I noticed when wiping a pinky colour. Not enough to wear a sanitary towel, but there each time I went to toilet. This morning it's quite dark, almost brown.

Dr Google most unhelpful and freaking me out. This chat has helped me calm down. Will phone and speak to my doctor on Monday. I'll let you know how I get on.

  • Hi, I've also been freaking out reading Mr Google over the weekend.  I'm 53 next month and haven't had a period for 2 years.  Then 2 days ago noticed blood on toilet paper after having a wee. I've had constipation recently and thought it was blood from my bottom at first, but then wiped myself again and realised it was from my vagina.  Never knew such a thing as postmenousal bleeding existed, assumed it was a freak, very late, period or some spotting, so wasn't worried at all.  Still bleeding yesterday morning, so still thinking 'period' I used one of my daughter's tampons.  Then decided I'd check out with Mr Google the likelihood of a period 2 years after stopping them and came across all the articles relating to what I now know as post menopausal bleeding.  While is it scary reading what this could mean, I'm glad I've found the info as I'm definitely ringing my GP first thing tomorrow and will insist on a referral to have the necessary examinations to find out what's causing it.   I'm trying to stay calm and not think the worst, but like most people on here have said it's hard not to until you get the examination results, so I am very anxious and scared right now .  Glad I've found you guys.

  • Yes, will do. You too - looks like we're in a similar position.  Hope we get referred soon.  Take care x

  • How did you get on with speaking to Doctors?  Mine making a referral to see gynaecologist to get examined.  So, just waiting now for a date.  Thankfully bleeding eased off a bit today.  How are you feeling?
    Keep in touch. x

  • Hi

i wonder if any of you can help and guide me, I was 33 when being told I was going through my menopausal and it was the end of my world as I wanted a family so bad I had ivf in the end and got my bundle of joy and accepted goung through menopause after all these years. I had a bleed last year which was spotting if you like. Then was told it was normal till this year I had a massive bleed in March and again now I actually feel lost as I feel like they are just throbbing me off saying there's nothing wrong when this isn't normal for me can your body bleed again or is there something wrong. I'm 38 now nearly 39 and I feel so alone
