ibs/ibd or worse

i'm new to the forum and posting to see if there is anyone with similar symptoms. for over a year or so i have been having to poo quite a lot each day, 5/6. 95% of the time it would be morning and early afternoon. i didn't go to the doctors as i thought it was a bit embarassing. sometimes it was loose in the morning but most the time it would be solid.

just before xmas when i wiped there was a bit of blood so i went to drs in the new year and had blood tests which came back fine, was given stool sample to do but i never did it. in feb i had some blood in the toilet after going, each time i did have the blood my hole was quite sore so i don't know if it was cut from going to the toilet a lot? went back to drs and had more blood tests and was given stool sample. both came back fine. did another stool sample and was referred to the hospital. the second stool sample was a faecal calprotectin? dr at hospital said that was ok and has booked me for a colonoscopy which isn't for a good few months.

now they haven't really said what it could be but apparently the colonoscopy could tell if it is ibd?

i've never felt ill from all of this, but at the weekend i woke up with stomach pain, and did again the sunday night. went to drs yesterday and (each time it is a different dr) he seems to think it is ibs? has given me some mebeverine which seems to have stopped most of the pain. over the weekend when my stomach was hurting and i was going to the toilet it was just for big farts. stools have been thinner than normal though

so i'm wondering if there is anyone in a similar situation to me? i'm 30 and quite active, eat healthily most the time. just panicking at the whole situation and googling isn't helping

  • Hi tommyt4. Welcome to the forum.

I am not a doctor but I am a chronic Irritible Bowel sufferer for the last 40+ years.

There are a number of things in your favour: your age and the clear fecal tests. These make cancer less likely, but can't rule it out completely. That's why you've been booked in for a routine colonoscopy.

Your symptoms do sound like IBS and it's also indicative that Mebeverine helps, since this is a common and effective IBS treatment.  While you're waiting for the colonoscopy, you might also find drinking Aloe Vera juice helps to control the symptoms.  This shouldn't interfere with the Mebeverine.

When you have the colonoscopy, please come back with the result. If IBS is confirmed then I may have more helpful advice for you, based on my own experience. However, it would be jumping the gun to say more now.

  • Thankyou for your reply. The pain hasn't been too bad today, only really this evening after dinner it was bad for half hour now it's not too bad. I'm still having the thin poos though which is worrying me a bit, they're all solid though but there's not much poo. It's strange how the pain suddenly started at the weekend, i hadn't had discomfort like this before with the ongoing problem, it's like something i ate at the weekend could have triggered it

edit - the thin poos suddenly came on at the weekend the day after the pain/cramps. it wasn't a building up thing

I will look into the aloe vera juice, thankyou very much.
