ENT Awaiting Results

Last week I had a biopsy under General, this was for a Laryngoscopy but they also did an Oesophagoscopy as found several ulcerated lesions.  Was told at the time they looked suspect.  Have received an appointment for Head and Neck CT scan, an appointment for results with ENT and on the same day I have another appointment with MDT Oncology.  Does this mean a positive result for cancer.  I think it does and got the impression the surgeons already were fairly sure last week.  Appointments not untill week Tuesday so seems a long time to wait.  Am I worrying and reading too much or am I right in how i have interpretted the two appointments that it is a bit more serious.

  • He had a biopsy on his voice box polyp and that was cancerous. The CT & Ultrasound done afterwards  are to check for spread to lungs and bones  & lymph nodes it’s routine I believe . So they didn’t miss anything I just think they like to check other areas of the body to double , triple check . X The outcome of all these gives the grading my husbands is . Spindle cell variation of the larynx T1 NO MO . Fingers all crossed for you . PPS his symptoms were just a lost voice for almost 8 weeks no other symptom at all . Doctor suspected laryngitis for much of this time ! Sigh

  • Thank the good lord above your husband is well. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Thank you for your thoughts. I am well. I was worried about what turns out is acid Reflux symptoms.. thank god.. my Dr put a scope down my nose and lookeded yesterday. Said he is very certain it isn’t cancer..

i had been having heartburn a few weeks earlier for several days before I started having throat problems.. now no heartburn, just throat feels weird.. ugh

  • Hi DD

My symptoms were a persistent sore throat, swollen neck glands and hacking cough.  The sore throat was not like just one you get with a cold etc and certain foods were making it worse so i guessed it was an ulcer.  I have Crohns Disease and it is not unusual to get mouth ulcers with this so I assumed it was an apthous ulcer and just wanted something to soothe it so went to the GP.  She sent me on an urgent 2 week referal to ENT.  Doctor put camera down my nose and said that looks like cancer to me so he sent me for biopsy under general anaesthetic, done 2 weeks ago.  Surgeon told me it was very suspect and the primary was in the Epiglottis but there were a  couple of other small areas at base of tongue...  Sent me home with instructions to see me in 2 weeks and for the Ultra sound and CT to be done.  As i was still under effects of GA at the time I cant remember everything he said.  So I have a early morning appointment with him on Tuesday in ENT.  Then I have signed up to on line medical records and another appointment popped up a couple of days later for Head and Neck MDT Oncology on same day in the afternoon.  So i admit this panicked me but have now calmed down and put my big girl pants on and just have to wait and see.

  • My Prayers are with you MO... Iwill keep positive thoughts for you... Have you heard of K-LOVE? Google it.. They are my savings grace.. The music and prayers always bring me calmness.

  • Hi Ginpo, just had first appointment of today with ENT and cancer is confirmed, it is in the cartilage of the epiglottis so surgery is the main treatment but will find out more this afternoon at the MDT Oncology appointment.  Feeling a bit numb at the moment but OK.

  • Oh Mo I’m sorry to hear this news . My husbands is in his Glottis so similar . You have to keep positive and remember this cancer is very treatable . Ask my in private message if you want to know anything I hate writing on here in case I scare people ! X x x

  • Oh Mo, I am so sorry about this news. The Epiglottis seems like a rare area. My glottis has poped up where i can see it when i look in my throat. Started 6 years ago. It scared the heck out of me. If it isn't to much to ask, how did this come to attention? What type of surgery will they be doing? My thoughts and prayers are with you and Ginpo's husband.

  • Aww thanks Ddjar .

last radiotherapy fraction for my husband tomorrow . Thank God . X x
