  • Hi ImranM. Welcome to the forum.

I'm not a doctor, but I have suffered from IBS for many years.

It seems to me that your doctor has covered all the bases and more, and given your age cancer is unlikely.

So, I think the real question is why are you suffering from IBS symptoms, and I think the obvious answer is that you have IBS.   I know from personal experience that IBS meds don't work for everybody, or they work for a while and then stop working.

I suggest you return to your doctor and ask whether or not a proton-pump inhibitor might be useful for your upper digestive tract symptoms.  You don't want to be on these for too long at your age, so just a short course.  Also, ask for a referral to a dietician who can advise you on diet; if the doctor and dietician agree that IBS is the root cause of your symptoms, then ask the dietician to help you go on a "FODMAP" diet to find out whether any particular foods are triggering your IBS.

Can I also warn you that all these suggestions MUST be agreed with your doctor.  I have no qualifications and I don't want you to self-medicate based on my very limited knowledge.  Don't buy PPIs on the internet without a proper prescription and don't try to put yourself on a FODMAP diet without medical guidance.
