Mass in brain

I've been having headaches for the last couple of months. The NHS just told me that they were migraines and to rest at home. Fortunately, my parents were able to pay for me to have a private MRI. The neurologist has told me that there is a mass inside the front right part of my brain and he is doing a referral to the neurosurgeons. I'm now freaking out because a mass could be anything! Has anyone else experienced this and found out that the mass is ok? I'm assuming that having a mass doesn't necessarily mean that there's something wrong??

  • Hello there,

im sorry you’ve been experiencing headaches and that the MRI has shown something but don’t fear for the worst! Keep positive and even if god forbid it is something sinister then there are multiple treatments out there.

I too have been experiencing headaches since December  and my GP says they are migraine/tension headaches. My parents have also given me the option to get a private MRI done but have hesitated as my headaches have gone down but I’ve been experiencing new symptoms like dizziness.

I am going to the GP again this Monday and we’ll see from there.

Please keep me updated and I hope the best for you to feel and get better!

  • Hi Rich,

I do have a lesion on my pons (the part of the brain that controls our autonomic functions) due to years of hemiplegic migraines.  However, that sounds different to what you have.  While it's hard, there is no point freaking out at this point.  Lots of brain masses are benign (i.e. non-cancerous) and are treatable, so while anything in our brains is going to naturally worry us, it is best to wait for more information.

If it helps any I know of two poeple who have been living with a brain tumour, one of them for over 20 years.  Post-initial her diagnosis and treatment (as hers was actually a secondary cancer), she has gone on to have children, see them grow up, has a career and a great social life.

So please try not to assume the worst, and let us know how you get on?
