Today's CT scan didn't go well

hi everyone. I'm feeling very down so any support would be appreciated especially tom when I hope to get some results. The CT scan didn't go well today although the worst bit was the injection of dye which hurt. The radiographer brought a doctor in and suddenly it was all try to get an appointment with the specialist tom if you can. I could feel the atmosphere had changed so now I'm dreading tom. I am still bleeding after Mondays hysteroscopy probably more than before since January and I just don't know how I am going to cope with any diagnosis and feel it will be news that cancer has spread. I don't know why. How do I cope with this?

  • Hello Brendasbaby. I didn’t want to read and run when you are clearly so distressed. Absolutely the worst bit of all of this is the waiting for results, and our minds racing ahead thinking all sorts. . It’s just awful. I’ve had several ct scans and have never found the dye going through the cannula painful, so I’m sorry you had that to add to things.

I’ve had a hysteroscopy and experienced the bleeding so I can empathise with that. Do you actually have an appointment to see your consultant tomorrow? Will you definitely get the scan results tomorrow?

I was convinced my cancer had spread when I had my first ct scan. It hadn’t. I hope your results too are better than you are imagining.

Coping is difficult...a real mental challenge and apart from trying to keep busy and distract yourself, there’s not a lot you can do. Once you have your results and see what’s going on and what treatment you will need I hope you will find it easier to deal with things. You then have a focus and you know what you’re dealing with.

Please keep in touch and I’m sure you’ll find this forum a very helpful and supportive place. Will be thinking of you tomorrow-please do let us know how you get on. xx

  • Thank you so much for replying. Yes I see the consultant tom but she is a gynaecologist who I saw for the bleeding even though the CT scan was on my bowel. I presume she will pass me on to someone else. I know you are right. I will definitely let you know any results and what's happening. Thanks again for replying xxx

  • At least you are seeing the consultant quickly which is a good thing-you don’t have to wait for a couple of weeks or anything. I’ve recently had to wait over 5 weeks for my latest scan results/consultant appointment which was very stressful!

I won’t say try not to worry because I know you will...it’s natural. Hopefully you have good family support and here in the virtual world there is always support from those who understand. xx

  • Hi,

We always tend to over thnk and second guess things after a CT scan.

After my first ever CT scan everyone was so relaxed and laid back. It took over a week afterwards before my appointment with a consultant for the results. Despite this, the news was pretty bad. You never can tell how these things will go. The waiting and uncertainty is always horrendous.

    Good luck with your results.

    Dave
