Hi all,
My wife was diagnosed with stage 1B melanoma four and a half years ago after checking on a suspicious looking mole at the top of her right arm. She had it removed via wide excision and has had regular skin checks since with no issues. Also no irregularities in her lymph nodes. She’s in good health. A couple of months she noticed two small lumps, one in her left buttock and one at the top of her leg (at crease with buttock) on right side. They are pea sized lumps, maybe slightly larger. The consultant wasn’t too concerned but to be on safe side they removed the one on left buttock for testing. When they removed it they ruled out lypoma (fatty tissue) so now our anxiety has gone up a notch. We’re now waiting on results.
I work at a hospital and managed to speak to one of the skin nurses. Naturally she said we won’t know until the results are through, but the location didn’t necessarily tie in with a melanoma re-occurrence based on where she had it before (upper arm) although she admitted it can’t be ruled out. I guess I’m just canvassing opinions from people who may have had similar experiences as to what our odds are of this being a re-occurrence as worried sick at the moment. Feels like we’re backed into a corner now that lypoma has been ruled out.
thanks all
