Found a lump

Hi everyone, I found a lump a few weeks ago in my breast and put off going to the doctors for about a week as I was scared. U went and felt nervous as to what they would say, yes he felt lump and when I said I have also had fluid leak from my nipple, he asked for me to have a urgent 2 week referral appointment, which I have this Monday 1/4/19.  Im very nervous about going and have not really thought about anything else, I’ve tried to keep myself busy which is fine until I stop.

Ive only told my partner, and even then that was about 2 weeks after I found the lump and got the referral, as didn’t want him to worry. It’s so hard being alone and not having a real person to talk to, I mean my partner says positive things all the time but it doesn’t help, bless him. I would rather think negative and be told positive news then think positive and be told bad news, it that strange. I guess that’s just how my mind works.

  • I found a lump in my breast. And noticed that my nipple has begun to turn inward. Classic sign that it could be cancer. (I also has eczema coming out of my nipple - another classic sign it could be cancer).

Having watched my my older sister die of cancer in her early 40's, I decided to phone the doctor there and then. Within 10 days I had an appointment at my breast clinic and had a biopsy by a wonderful professor. Worst thing about the whole  thing was having to tell loved ones I had a lump and it may be cancer.

Well it turned out it was cancer. (My GP gave me some great advice about the biopsy. He said if it was a liquid it could not be cancer because cancer is always solid). Following surgery chemo etc, I'm still here 10 years later but was told by the clinic if I'd waited longer, it might not have been so easily treatable. Or it could have been fatal as my cancer had developed the ability to spread. In fact it did- to my lymph nodes.

So my advice to others is to seek treatment now. Just like you are. It may be nothing, but better to get it early. And there's might be a Maggie's Centre attached to your local hospital too. They are fabulous.

and good luck both of you.

    Hi Littlelight,

Welcome to our community. I am sorry to hear that you have been through so much since your diagnosis, but glad that you got it investigated when you did and, are still here advocating early detection.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and am just approacing my 10th anniversary. More people are living with cancer these days than they did in the past. I would agree with you about Maggies Centres. They really understand where we are coming from and are absolutely fabulous.

Thank you for adding such positivity to this forum. We hear plenty about the bad, but seldom do people return to tell us about the good outcomes.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
