Freckle change

I have recently been to the doctors about a freckle on my face that seems to no be slightly raised and near it. He seems like there’s wasn’t an issue and it’s just a freckle and not worry but I have nothing else like this on my face apart from a pale mole near my nose that’s been there for as ever as I can remember. It’s just really concerning me, I intially though it was a pimple next to the freckle but it hasn’t done anything and it doesn’t feel like a spot.

    Hi Lou1990. Welcome to the forum.

    I'm not a doctor.  I would trust your doctor's assessment because it is not black and it doesn't appear to be changing, and I assume it is still very small (less than 5mm).

    I would check it regularly (say once per month) and watch out for any signs of it changing, such as darkening in colour, or getting larger.  It might be an idea to take a photo of it with a ruler beside so that it's possible to estimate its size accurately.  Then if you think there are any changes you can take the photo to your doctor as evidence that something is happening.

    I'm sorry to hear you are anxious about this freckle and that you aren't happy about your GP's assessment.

    Did the GP examine it with a dermascope (a microscope type instrumen)? If they did then I would be happy that they saw no sign of any cell changes in the freckle. If they didn't, I would monitor it as telemando advises. Keep photo records of it every week over the next month and also seek out any old photos you have that may show any change over time. I would then make another appointment with a different GP at your surgery and get a second opinion which you are entitled to. Signs to look out for are changed in colour (either getting lighter, darker or more than one colour), itching, bleeding, scabbing, change in shape or size. Sadly melanoma doesn't always follow a particular pattern so some can be small or light coloured so it's important to keep a close eye on it and go back to get it checked out again in a few weeks time. Hopefully it will be fine and please let us know how you get on.

    Thank you both for your reply. It is still fairly small and I think that’s why the doctor shrugged if off it’s about 3-4mm. He didn’t use anything to examine just ran his finger over it and said it’s a freckle don’t worry about those worry about moles. I’ve started a photo log to keep an eye on it. I noticed the freckle a few months ago but it wasn’t slightly raised like it is now which has started my concern. Thank you again for the feedback I’m tempted with a second opinion if it shows any other signs of change.
