Pain under arm and in breast

Hi

im 43 yrs old abs for the last 4 weeks I have been experiencing a pain in my left arm pit which had now spread to a pain in my actual breast as well - it feels like sometimes it is going straight through the centre of my nipple/breast and is a sharp stabbing pain. I’ve also noticed pain in my right armpit but not as regular  the pain in my arm pit is like a burning pain and sometimes tingles

I can’t find any lumps in my arm pit or in my breast - I’m very flat chested so I can only feel the muscle/chest wall but both my breasts are really tender and sore - something I’ve never had at all even when I have my period

I’ve been to the gp but he didn’t even examine me and said it could be hormonal or related to a gastric condition that I’m currently having investigated (reflux or gastritis) so was quite dismissive

should I be worried? I feel like as I’m already being seen about my gastric issues that he thought I was being a hypochondriac

the pain in my armpit is worse when I reach out for something or stretch but I don’t think it’s muscular (I rarely exercise or lift anything heavy)

im worries if it’s something serious and should keep pushing to go back and see another GP?

any advice would be appreciated

thanks

Chalotte

  • I feel your worry . I am so worried too on case something has been missed. I have tried gabapentin, naproxen and amytriptiline and nothing helped. As for antidepressants I only took them for 2 months, they weren't helping the breast or arm feelings and I didn't want to be stuck on them!!

The osteopath thought it was coming from my rib, but I didn't think that. Nhs physio felt it wasn't musculoskeletal after phone call appts and private physio thought it was ligament damage or something like that. All of these things have cost a lot of money which I wouldn't mind if I had got some relief or a definite diagnosis!!

I think like you too in "what if something has been missed". I am so fed up of it consuming my thoughts!!

  • Hi

I was just wondering how you are doing? My situation is still the same. X

  • Hey

still in the same situation although physio working on my ribs.  I don't feel any relief, yet!
I have have lots of pins and needles and strange symptoms in my hand (raynauds and muscle twitching) so he wants me to have a scan on my neck to eliminate nerve impingement of some kind ?? It's all such a long process ..... nearly a year later and no answers !
    how are you ??
    xx

  • Hello

Thinks still about the same really , thanks for asking. I am just trying to get on with things and hoping that because it has been going on for 14 months it can't be anything serious .

When I did go to osteopath he thought it was my ribs too but physio disagreed. This left me even more confused!!!

I hope your scan gives you some diagnosis . Let me know how you get on.

I am so fed up of this being there and being always on my mind. X x x

  • Hi all

I've been searching for some information about my armpit/breast pain for a couple of weeks now.  I've read every entry in this chat and my symptoms are exactly the same.  I'm 58 and have been so worried.  I'm waiting for my routine mammogram results any day now and decided I would go to my GP if it comes back normal.  Has anyone had a result since June?

  • Hi all, I'm 28 years old and have been getting on and off pains in my armpit for about 6 months it's recently gotten worse and it is also swollen it seems. Anyone have any advice? I am due to speak with my GP about this but it's awful and just wanted to know what everyone else's experiences were.

    thank you all.

  • Hello everyone

i just wanted to post as I've been having similar experience over the past few months and just been told it's hormonal.

my left breast pain has gotten better but when it comes back it's quite sharp and last night when trying to sleep I certainly felt it more behind the left nipple and in the shoulder and arm. My left breast also gets hot sometimes, I always have to take a minute to think does my right breast feel like that too. I also have left arm pit ache and if I stretch it out it can be painful.

I have three breast examinations at the doctors and then one at the breast clinic but that's all he did, he wouldn't do any tests at all and said I should feel lucky I'm ok? I don't feel lucky I just feel constantly worried that it's not getting better and I'm constantly checking my breasts. I had really bad anxiety and everyone just says it's in my head but it's not at all!

  • hey all, hope everyone is well ️  Hoping for positive things for you all.

reading this thread got me a bit worried but also reassured others have same issues -

im 21 and have been having a shooting pain in my left armpit every now and then but recently almost every day. occasionally get a shooting pain in my left nipple

not on the pill and I'm not sure of any health conditions but I frequently worry about them as I'm a plus size girl and I smoke - my diet not too bad but I could deffo be healthier.

Haven't been to a doctor in yeaes since before COVID. I get anxiety about seeing the doctor and feeling embrassed of my weight and scared to hear what they'll say - I sometimes worry I've developed asthma through smoking & that I have diabetes or low iron or a range of other health conditions I can be a bit of a hypochondriac / anxious. I get stuff like restless legs in night & always low energy and my mum and cousin have low iron so could be plausible I think.

I struggle with my mental health a lot and have recently make the decision to come off anti depressants I've been on for 2 years.

I've recently registered with my uni gp but can't try book an apppintment til next week. I want to try book to see someone and face my worries about this armpit pain.

It's hard to get an appointment which makes me even more anxious that I won't be taken seriously Because I've been dismissed a lot in the past for stuff. I think it could deffo be hormone related I've often thought I have PMDD but a doctor dismissed it. Male obvs

Will keep you updated sorry if this was long xxx

  • Hello there,

For over half a year now I am experiencing daily pain from the middle to the top of both my breasts. Recently the pain has expanded to my underarms, collar bones, and right side of neck and top of shoulders. I can put it down to working from home 40 hours a week on a computer screen but the pain in the breasts before I started this job, but since the job it has gotten more painful.

I am a size 34DD sometimes 36D and so I would consider my breasts as heavy and therefore contributing to some of the pain?

I occasionally have shooting pains from the outter side of my breasts towards the nipple and it feels like liquid is passing through my system like an injection. Very often I have stinging pain on the top of both my breasts and now this pain elevates towards my right collar bone and into the right side of my neck (just between the jaw bone and lower ear). Are these signs of lympth nodes swelling?

I hesitated to see a nurse or GP for the first few months due to covid but my older sister said I had to have it checked. She booked me in and a female nurse examined my upper body. She didn't feel anything. Still I have referred to see a Breast Surg via NHS but for obviously reasons (covid) the NHS doctors are further from reach. The pain is growing and as are my everyday concerns for it. I am scared it can be something sinister. This may be a very selfish thing to say, and that is it brings me some comfort reading these forums that other ladies experience these oh so similar pains. I am scared of overthinking.

On another note, I also experience a boils (blood filled) on my genital area since I was a young teen. I am now 22 almost 23 and so I have dealt with these for about a decade now. I have been the nurse 3 times about the boils within this period of time and each time they have perscribed me Canestan cream (red one and once a blue one) to fight the infection. The spots are alarmingly concerning. It is like a huge over sized spot filled with blood and the pain and itchiness stops me from sleeping. The itchiest is after showers. The nurses have said it is hair folicles causing blocked pores but this just doesn't sit right with me. I wonder if anyone else experience this? I speak to my girl-friends about this and no one I have met yet has this issue. This concerns me too.

  • Just seen this thread and to say that I had severe pain for last 4 weeks, couldn't sleep.  My breast felt heavy and I have shooting pain, burning sensation.  Extremely worried.

Went to one stop clinic and diagnosed with costochondritis which I had before but this is a severe case.  Very treatable and common.  Hope this helps
