Pain under arm and in breast

Hi

im 43 yrs old abs for the last 4 weeks I have been experiencing a pain in my left arm pit which had now spread to a pain in my actual breast as well - it feels like sometimes it is going straight through the centre of my nipple/breast and is a sharp stabbing pain. I’ve also noticed pain in my right armpit but not as regular  the pain in my arm pit is like a burning pain and sometimes tingles

I can’t find any lumps in my arm pit or in my breast - I’m very flat chested so I can only feel the muscle/chest wall but both my breasts are really tender and sore - something I’ve never had at all even when I have my period

I’ve been to the gp but he didn’t even examine me and said it could be hormonal or related to a gastric condition that I’m currently having investigated (reflux or gastritis) so was quite dismissive

should I be worried? I feel like as I’m already being seen about my gastric issues that he thought I was being a hypochondriac

the pain in my armpit is worse when I reach out for something or stretch but I don’t think it’s muscular (I rarely exercise or lift anything heavy)

im worries if it’s something serious and should keep pushing to go back and see another GP?

any advice would be appreciated

thanks

Chalotte

  • In March I started getting left breast pain and armpit pain, I also get a dull ache down my arm. After many doctors phone calls they sent me for a breast examination and I had a ultrasound on my breath and armpit and they found nothing. The consultant said he thinks it's to do with my cycle and it was called cyclical and told me to take 1000mg of starflower oil for 1 month then 500mg for 2 months. I have done that and 1000mg helped a lot but 500mg the pain came back 40%. I still have the pain, its scared me most days making me depressed and worry something is seriously wrong. I have trouble sleeping with constant burning in my breast and armpit and dull ache down my arm, I also get pricking sensations as well.

  • Do you have an update regarding this? Would be great to hear you're ok and maybe it will help some other ladies :)

  • Hi, thanks for messaging and reminding me to update!

I had a check/screening at my hospital about 2 weeks ago now, the consultant could feel some slightly lumpy/enlarged tissue or nodes under my left breast but nothing sinister he thought. I had an ultrasound that same day and the doctor couldn't see anything worrying, but did mention that I had accessory/axillary breast tissue up into my armpit, which can apparently swell up and become tender, etc., maybe due to hormonal changes.

So that's put my mind at ease for the most part! Obviously if there are any new symptoms then they'll get me back in but they couldn't feel or see anything so always good news!

  • I am experiencing something similar too. I have GP app in the morning. What was the outcome with you?

  • Glad all okay. This sounds very similar to me

I have been feeling pain and discomfort in my left armpit and breast on and off for about a year. I had an appointment last week at the breast clinic where they examined my and did an ultrasound. They said they didn't find anything and it's to do with fibrocystic changes.

still feeling really uncomfortable. I've started taking evening primrose oil to try and help.

  • Hi

Just wondering if anybody found any answers to their problems mentioned here.

  • Hello

I'm still here, with an unchanged situation.  Still worrying and continuously thinking about what this is? I have had two incidences of nipple discharge ( tiny smears on underwear) about 4 weeks apart.  I went back to breast clinic and saw a different consultant who says nothing abnormal to feel all normal breast tissue.  Because my mammogram was Normal findings and my ultrasound revealed fibro type tissue with background of cysts that's what's causing the symptoms.  She said I could have this until menopause is done
My GP still thinks my shoulder is causing the pain ?!?
I just can't settle as it feels so uncomfortable ?

how are you doing ?? Any changes for you ?

  • Hi

I am still here too!! I still have the same sensations in my breast and sometimes in my arm. I have not been back to the breast clinic but have spoken to gp again a few months ago who this time prescribed antidepressants. I did not feel that they were for me though and would not solve my problem. I have also seen osteopath a number of times but didn't really help!!

Like you I think about it all of the time and have done for 13 months now. It is such a worry.,i wish we had some answers. X

  • My GP has suggested pregabalin which I know has a lot of side effects..... more physio, more worries, strange dreams, thinking about what if they've missed something, considering private appt (again) when will it go away ......

are you taking anti depressants ? If so do they help ? Gp suggested going back on progesterone only pill ( as I stopped taking it ) to see if that helps ..... I feel such a pain in the neck

  • I have had gabapentin which didn't help also naproxen and amitriptyline!!!

Did try antidepressants for 2 months but didn't stop feelings in breast and didn't want to be stuck on them.

Osteopath thought it was coming from my rib, I am not sure about that though. Nhs physio decided it wasn't musculoskeletal on the basis of a few phone calls . Private physio thought different. Therefore I have no definite answers which like you is so frustrating and worrying. Also all these private appts have been expensive to get me nowhere.

I know what you mean about thinking something has been missed and getting really worried. X x x
